Spring Village

Hi friends! I hope you are all well. After a rainy and cold week, we had great weather today and my walk was a real joy. Today, I have a fun 3-D tutorial to share with you.

Layers of ink - Spring Village Tutorial by Anna-Karin Evaldsson.

During winter I made a winter village with Tim Holtz Paper Village die set and I thought it was time to do a spring or summer version. I used only two houses this time, to leave more space for a little flower garden. The base is a wood disc, which was meant to be a coaster, but which instead became a perfect base for a project.

Die cut houses from heavystock paper and roofs from kraft-stock paper.

Ink the grey house with Pumice Stone and Hickory Smoke. For a wood effect, I stamped the houses with the Simon Says Stamp Wood Planks stamp, using slightly darker inks.

Fold the houses along the score lines.

For the windows I used pieces of acetate, colored with Latte alcohol ink.

Assemble the houses and glue on the roofs.

I also glued cheese cloth / mummy cloth curtains on the inside of the windows.

I wanted a tree and picked the toadstool with the thickest stem from Tim's Funky Toadstools set, so that it would have more stability. Die cut it five times from heavystock and five times from neutral kraft-stock paper.

Glue the pieces together. I glued three together and two together. Ink with green Distress Inks.

Glue the two green pieces together and add one trunk piece on each side.

Mix Rustic Wilderness and Twisted Citron paint into texture paste. Don't mix the colors completely. Apply to the base with a palette knife. Press the tree, flowers and houses into the paste. I added the red house later, since I didn't want the red ink to bleed into the paste. The Heirloom Roses were inked with alcohol ink.

I like how the ink colored them partially, making the white look porcelain-like.

When the paste was basically dry, I added the red house, with the door slightly ajar.

I few Clippings Stickers finished the houses.

And a Mini Flair Button.

The grey house is meant to look like old weathered, unpainted wood planks.

Although this is a toadstool, it works like a tree too. For another project using this die set, check out my Mushroom Forest tag.

From the back the little village looks like this.

The winter version also uses a wood disc as a base. You can find the Winter Village Tutorial here.

Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by here today! I will see you again tomorrow.

Happy crafting!

Inky Ombre Card Tutorial

Hello crafters! We have a very special birthday at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog this week. We are turning 10 years old! It is amazing to think of all the creativity and wonderful projects that have been created for the challenge during these 10 years. I am very happy that so many people join us in the challenge and share their projects.

We have a special Happy Birthday theme this week, to celebrate our birthday. Since it is also the first Monday of a new month, the team is showcasing products by a specific company/designer. This week it is Stamper's Anonymous, who creates fantastic rubber stamps, stencils and other products. You can see their range of products here. You don't have to use their products to join in the challenge, but it is always fun if you do.

We also have a new guest designer. During August the wonderful Anne Redfern is our guest. She creates so many different creative projects and don't miss her blog Redanne

Don't miss our month long Kids Summer Vacation Challenge over on the Wednesday Challenge Blog. The theme is Anything Goes With Sparkle And/Or Shine. Please CLICK HERE for more details.

I made a birthday card using the Tiny Text stamp set by Stamper's Anonymous, designed by Tim Holtz. I also used Stamper's Anonymous fantastic Clearly For Art Modeling Film by Wendy Vecchi. It's been one of my favorite surfaces for a long time and you can do many different techniques with it.

When I looked at the Tiny Text stamp, planning to remove some of the sentiments and stamp them, I thought it would be fun to use the entire set as a big stamp first. I stamped a couple of sheets of papers like this, so that I can use them in the future. White emboss the Tiny Text on Heavystock paper, positioning it so that you get complete sentiments at the left-hand edge of the paper.

I inked the paper with Mustard Seed, Ripe Persimmon and Abandoned Coral. Isn't it a gorgeous color combo? The white embossing will resist the ink.

Clearly For Art Modeling Film is a thick plastic film, which can be die cut, stamped on, cut out, and colored in various ways. Heat it to soften and then shape the designs. The film keeps it shape perfectly. If you aren't happy with it, just reheat and reshape. Be careful not to burn yourself. I die cut some of Tim's Small Tattered Florals. You might need to take the die back and forth a couple of times in your Big Shot or Vagabond

I also die cut the Simon Says Stamp Etched Flower Buds.

Carefully heat with a heat tool and then shape the buds.

Color the stems with Snow Cap Alcohol Ink Mixative and apply a thin layer of Moon Dust Stickles to the back of the buds. The Stickles takes a while to dry on the plastic, but gives a great glittery look.

Color the Tattered Florals with Snow Cape, Valencia and Butterscotch alcohol ink, using a felt applicator.

When dry, shape them in the same way as the Etched Buds.

I love the Tiny Text stamp set. The sentiments are wonderful and I also really like small-sized sentiments.

Pierce a hole through the plastic flowers and layer them together with a brad or staples.

The glitter buds were a little hard to photograph, but they look really nice with the glitter. The new Stickles jars also contains some larger pieces of glitter, which you can see here.

Modeling Film is great for dimensional embellishments like these, but also perfect for entire backgrounds, clear cards, or for shaker cards. Here are some more examples: Recycled Tag, Wildflower Mason Jar, Embossed Acetate Autumn Tag, Apothecary Wall-Hanger, Sherlock Holmes Tags, and Halloween Window.

Speckled Egg Vintage Tag

Hello friends! Today I have a tag to share using several different Speckled Egg Distress media. You can of course also do the techniques with other colors, but since I recently got Speckled Egg, I wanted to use it as my main color here. I started with this tag basically as soon as I had opened the parcel containing Speckled Egg.

Layers of ink - Speckled Egg Vintage Tag Tutorial by Anna-Karin Evaldsson.

I love a textured Distress Ink background and here I also added some Distress Oxide ink and of course stamping. I also used Speckled Egg Distress Paint, Distress Spray Stain and Embossing Glaze.

Layers of ink - Speckled Egg Vintage Tag Tutorial by Anna-Karin Evaldsson.

I love blue and Speckled Egg is such a pretty light blue. It complements the other blue shades in the Distress line very well and I had been wanting a light blue without the turquoise/teal tint of Tumbled Glass. I love Tumbled Glass and use it all the time, but sometimes I want a more neutral light blue.

I smeared Speckled Egg Distress Ink and a little Pumice Stone on a craft sheet and pressed a tag into the ink. Dry and repeat.

Next, I did the same with just a little Distress Oxide ink, adding the chalky color here and there.

One of the flowers from Flower Shop was stamped on the tag with Ground Espresso Archival ink and then colored lightly with colored pencils.

The script stamp from Flower Shop was stamped here and there on the background with Vintage Photo Archival Ink.

Here's a cool way of coloring the Theories Quote Chips which are white. Press onto an embossing ink pad and emboss with Speckled Egg Embossing Glaze. It gives a great glossy effect.

I also added Specimen remnant rubs and Clippings stickers. Here you can see the beautiful blue shades in the background.

You just need to add a little bit of color to the stamped rose.

Sand the rub-ons slightly to give them a distressed look. Here you can see the mix of Distress Ink and the more opaque and chalky Oxide Ink.

Layer two die cut Crochet pieces under the Quote Chip and add another Clippings Sticker.

I also misted the roses with Perfect Pearls powder mixed into water. You can see that glimmer effect here. It collects in the grooves.

Here you can see the glossy look of the embossing glaze, and since the glaze is transparent you can still read the word perfectly. With normal colored embossing powder, the text would have been covered up.
