Green Textures Layout

Hello friends! This weekend we really had spring weather and spent hours outdoors each day. On Sunday, Leo and I walked in one of our favourite forests. He loves being outdoors and goes and gets his shoes and overall when he sees that someone is planning to go out.

This week at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge we have a Things With Wings challenge. It is the last week for our March guest designer Linda Kunsman. Be sure to check out her gorgeous project.

I was in the mood for a scrapbooking layout this week and found these photos from a hike in the Drakensberg in South Africa, from some years back. I like all the shades of green on these photos and the fact that I am standing on the path with my camera in my hand on the top one. The papers are from the lovely Nature Sketchbook release by Graphic 45.

I love this paper from the 8 x 8 in pad, with its organic shapes. All the edges of the papers were distressed and I stitched them to the background with my sewing machine.

The layout was inspired by this lovely quote, which is a shortened version of a quote which I always liked. I looked for the origins of the quote and it is often said to be by Nathaniel Hawthorne, but that might not be the case.

The papers have lovely vintage floral and butterfly prints. I cut out butterflies from the papers too. The title was die cut with the Block Talk Lowercase die.

And another lovely quote. I really like quotes, as you might already know, and these fit so well together with my photos.

The photos are placed on a folded piece of black cardstock, because I wanted space for journaling and for an extra photo. It opens up and I wrote the journaling with a white pen and also added some more vintage images from Nature Sketchbook.

I really hope you will join us in our Things with wings challenge. As every week, you have a chance to win a $50 gift voucher from Simon Says Stamp. You have until Monday 8am Ohio time. 1pm UK time, 2 pm CET to join in.

Don't forget to follow Simon Says Stamp on Instagram, they post great stuff daily.

Lion Birthday Card Tutorial

Hi everyone! I have a card tutorial for you today, made for the Eileen Hull Inspiration Team. We have a card and tag theme this month.

Leo is turning two years old next month, time really flies, it feels like just yesterday when he turned one. I thought I would make him a birthday card. What could be better than a lion themed card? He growls when he sees a lion toy or picture, but I think this one is going to get one of the noises he makes for cute animals instead. Eileen's Lion & Monkey die was used to make the lion, and also used the Homemade Alphabet, Luggage Tag and Kitchen Labels dies.

This card actually started out with me finding a die cut piece of white Paper Leather on my desk, I had used the letters for something else, and thought this leftover piece would make a good card background. You could also use watercolour paper, or mixed media paper.

Smear Distress Inks on a craft sheet, mist with water and press the Paper Leather into the ink. Paper Leather takes ink very well and is very durable.

When the ink is dry, I stamped the background with a Darkroom Door Scratches Texture Stamp and Fern Green ink.

Smear Fossilized Amber on a craft sheet, mist with water and press the smaller white lion body and the face into the ink. Repeat with Ground Espresso, also adding some to the feet and tail.

Die cut a label from burlap using one of the Kitchen Labels dies.

Die cut the Luggage Tag from Graphic 45 Safari Adventure paper. Ink the edges.

Since the patterned paper is double-sided, there was automatically a pretty background inside the tag when I folded it over. Place the burlap label on top and glue the lion together. Adhere the head of the lion with foam dots. The stamped sentiments come from the Darkroom Door Wild Africa Vol. 2 set. I also used the Lion die for a box I made to record Leo's growth.

Tie strings to the tag and adhere the tag with foam strips.

I rounded the corners of the alphabet panel and placed a patterned paper behind it, continuing on the safari theme.

A paper strip, piece of lace trim and string were adhered to the background behind the tag.

I hope you enjoyed this little tutorial! For more inspiration on Eileen's dies, check out the Die Cut Magic with Eileen Hull book by Bella Crafts, in which I am also happy to have some projects.
