Fresh Cut Floral Card

Hi friends! I hope you are enjoying summer (or winter if you are in the southern hemisphere).

It is Monday and we have a new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. This week our theme is Make Your Own Background. I made my own backgrounds almost all the time, it is one of my favorite things to do. Don't miss the project by our July guest designer Thom Santilla.

Layers of ink - Fresh Cut Floral Card Tutorial by Anna-Karin Evaldsson.

I made a background with several layers: watercolor, stencil-stamping with mist, heat embossing and script stamping. It was paired with two bright flowers and stamped sentiments.

Watercolor the background.

I started out with this piece of paper which had been watercolored for another project - my Blue Shark Card, which you can find here.

Mist stencil and stamp on the background.

Using Tim Holtz Latticework, I misted through it with Distress Spritz Peacock Feathers and Tumbled Glass and then some Distress Spray Stain Salty Ocean. Turn the stencil around and stamp it on the watercolored background.

Mist stencil and stamp on the project.

I was doing the previous step outdoors and got a surprise visit by a curious dog, making my stamped impression not exactly as planned. I continued by misting through Tim's Linen stencil using Antique Linen Distress Spritz.

Die cut Simon Says Stamp Fresh Cut Floral.

The Simon Says Stamp Fresh Cut Floral Stem was die cut from various backgrounds in my scrap pile, most of these had been inked with Distress Ink, some were watercolored.

Stamp Simon Says Stamp Outline Hearts.

I cut off the edges of the background and then white embossed Simon Says Stamp Outline Hearts on the sky part.

Stamp with Simon Says Stamp Old Letter.

Stamp in a few places with Simon Says Stamp Old Letter and black ink.

Shape the petals before gluing them to the background. I also added Simon Says Stamp Pawsitively Dazzling Dusk Gems.

Stamp sentiments with Simon Says Stamp Retro Hearts.

The sentiments come from Simon Says Stamp Retro Hearts and were stamped with black and Guava ink. I also added a piece of lace trim and organza ribbon.

The background had layers, depth and textures, without overwhelming the flowers.

Hello crafters! Summer seems to have arrived here, with warm and sunny weather this weekend.

This week we have a Spritz and/or Splatter theme at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog. I hope you will join us! Get messy! Don't miss the lovely project by our June guest designer Wanda Hentges.

Layers of ink - Pastel Butterfly Journal Page Tutorial by Anna-Karin Evaldsson.

I made an art journal page with summery, pastel colors, butterflies, Distress Paint, texture, paste and spray mists. The butterflies were misted with Distress Spray Stain and Distress Spritz. I also added some Spritz to the background. I worked in my Dylusions Small Creative Journal.

Paint with Distress Paint.

Start by applying gesso to the background. I had left-over paint from another project (coming later this week). Mist with water to blend.

Add texture paste through stencil.

Stamp three sentiments with Tim Holtz stamps and then apply texture paste through Tim's Harlequin stencil. I used Simon Says Stamp Very Very Low Tack tape to protect the background from the paste.

Stamp with Simon Says Stamp Old Letter.

Stamp here and there with Simon Says Stamp Old Letter.

Add Stickles.

Apply Orange Slice Stickles with a palette knife through the stencil.

Die cut Simon Says Stamp Stylized Butterfly.

Die cut Simon Says Stamp Stylized Butterfly from watercolor paper.

Spray with Distress Spritz.

Mist the butterflies. I used Mermaid Lagoon Distress Spray Stain, Saltwater Taffy, Peacock Feathers and Walnut Stain Distress Spritz. (I forgot to include the Peacock Feathers spritz in the photo).

Mist a little Saltwater Taffy on the background too.

I also stamped butterflies using Simon Says Stamp Mandala Blossoms and Mother's Day sets. This sentiment comes from Tim's Perspective set.

Glimmery butterfly.

The butterflies are more shimmery than what you can see on the photos.

Originally, I planned for the harlequin pattern to be white, but they disappeared a bit on the page, which is why I added the Stickles.

This butterfly covers a bit of the main sentiment. I stamped the sentiment before deciding which butterflies to use. The main sentiment comes from Tim's Warehouse District.

Peaceful Art Journal

Hello friends! I hope you are well and had a good weekend. The sun is shining here today, which is nice since we had very grey weather lately.

Layers of ink - Peaceful forest art journal tutorial by Anna-Karin Evaldsson.

I have a brand new journal at home, namely Stamperia's Happiness Mixed Media 6x3.5 in Journal. It is a great little size and the pages are watercolor paper, which is my favorite surface. I made a page without much of a plan, using mists, splatter and ink.

Mist with Distress Spritz.

I forgot to take a photo of the first step. I smeared Distress Ink on an acrylic block, misted with water and stamped on the page. When dry, mist Distress Spritz through Tim Holtz Deco Feather stencil.

Mist with Antique Linen Distress Oxide through Sparkle Face stencil.

Mist through Tim's Sparkle Fade stencil with Antique Linen Distress Oxide Spray.

Stamp with Simon Says Stamp Old Letter background stamp.

When the page is dry, stamp with Simon Says Stamp Old Letter.

Splatter with Ground Espresso.

Smear Ground Espresso on a non-stick craft sheet and mist with water. Flick splatters on the page with a paint brush.

Ink with Distress Inks.

Smear Distress Inks on a non-stick craft sheet and mist with water. Press watercolor paper into the ink. Let dry and repeat until you are happy with the look.

Ink with Speckled Egg and Lost Shadow Distress Ink.

Do the same with Speckled Egg and Lost Shadow. This paper is for our snow.

Die cut Simon Says Stamp Snow Laden Trees.

Die cut Simon Says Stamp Snow Laden Trees from both papers. I added a bit more blue ink on the trees.

Stamp sentiments with Simon Says Stamp Forest Scenery.

Assemble the trees and glue them on the background. I used two trees.

Stamp a sentiment from Simon Says Stamp Create and die cut with the coordinating die.

It is hard to capture the shimmer of the Distress Spritz, but you can see it a little better here. I also added a few sequins.
