Card Patterns #172: the last sketch

Today, it is time for the last Card Patterns sketch. How sad, I am going to miss the sketches so much. I hope you will play along with us this week to say goodbye to Card Patterns. The last sketch, by Michelle, has a circle element, which is always a favorite of mine. Here it is:

I did a thank you card, for all the inspiration I’ve gotten from Card Patterns. Thank you Michelle and Tracy! You have done a fabulous job running this challenge, and I loved being on the design team for the past 6 months.

Lots of layered circle elements on this card. I made two rosette flowers and stacked them on top of each other, finishing the top one off with Crackle Accent in the centre, and smearing some Rock Candy Stickles on both of them. I discovered that the large flower fit perfectly into the stamped circle from the new Road Trip stamp set from Tim Holtz. It is a car themed stamp, but I love the frame it gave to the flower. It was stamped on patterend paper with Victorian Velvet ink. I finished the layered circle elements off with a dry embossed and sanded kraft core scalloped circle.

The background was made by stamping the Fabric Design stamp with white paint. After it dried, I inked it with Victorian Velvet and Frayed Burlap, and misted heavily with Perfect Pearls and water. I stamped the sentiment with Archival Coffee, and a few dots with Frayed Burlap.

For the square, I stamped a thank you definition stamp with Jenni Bowlin Soap Powder on ledger paper.

The crinkle ribbon and roses were dyed with Distress Stains (Victorian Velvet, Frayed Burlap and Tumbled Glass). I love the way the pattern shows through the sentiment.

Thank you for visiting!

Card Patterns #171: Bon Voyage

Back again with my Card Patterns card for this week. Here’s the great sketch:

 And my card:

I have been wanting to do a card with this big boat stamp, and because this stamp is so big, I made the card square instead of rectangular as the sketch. It was stamped with Archival Jet Black ink on Ranger Specialty Stamping Paper, which is a matte coated paper. I coloured it with dye inks (Distress and Adirondack) using craft nibs and a Colorbox stylus tool. Waves were added with a white gel pen, as well as some highlights on the boat

The background was done by streaking Tumbled Glass and Stormy Sky Distress Stains across a piece of manila cardstock, and then finishing off with streaks of Picket Fence. I stamped on top with Stormy Sky. The gears were die-cut from grungeboard and painted silver.

There is unfortunately a reason for why this is a Bon Voyage card. This is the second last Card Patterns sketch, since the challenge will be closing down after the next sketch. I have played along in the challenge for a long time, and I have very much enjoyed being on the DT, so I am going to miss it very much. I hope you can play along with us for these two last sketches, so that we can give Card Patterns a proper good bye. A big thank you to Tracy and Michelle for all the inspiration since 2008, and for wanting me to be on the design team.

Thank you for looking!

Card Patterns sketch #170

This week we are sponsored by Annabelle Stamps again at Card Patterns. Here’s the sketch by Michelle, lots of opportunities with this one:

My card:

I used one of my scrap pieces of cling wrap backgrounds (made with waterered down blue acrylic paint) and stamped a little flower garden on top, using chalk inks. The Dotted Flower stamps worked perfectly for this. The sentiment was stamped on a strip of patterned paper and the card was finished off with some dry embossing, a ribbon, button and a die-cut border piece.

Thank you for looking!

Card Patterns sketch #169

Hi everyone! This week Card Patterns is sponsored by Annabelle Stamps and the DT got some fun stamps to play with. I hadn’t used these stamps before, so that made it extra fun. Here’s this week’s sketch, designed by Michelle:

I always enjoy a sketch with circle elements, here's my card:

I wanted to do a sunny card and white embossed different sized flowers from the Dotted Flowers set on a cardstock circle. Then it was inked with Squeezed Lemonade and Scattered Straw Distress Ink. I cut a banner from yellow patterned paper and stamped the sentiment on top. I also used one of the stamps from the set to stamp the border around the kraft paper.

Thank you for visiting! Tomorrow I have a fun scenic stamping project to share.

Card Patterns #168: The journey awakens the soul

Hi everyone!! A second post for today. This week Card Patterns is sponsored by Prickley Pear rubber stamps and the team got some great stamps to play with. Check out the site for the cards of all the DT members. Here’s this week’s fun sketch designed by Michelle:

And my card:

I used a stamp with a vintage add for sewing machines, so the card has a sewing theme. The Sewing Ad stamp was stamped twice on a torn tag which I found in my scrap basket. It had been aged with walnut ink. The great sentiment was stamped on a blue canvas scrap. For the background I used a piece of sewing pattern and inked it a bit with Frayed Burlap and Walnut Stain. I also added some cheese cloth underneath the tag and stitched everything in place with my sewing machine.

Thank you for visiting! I hope you can play along with us this week!

Card Patterns sketch #167: Happy Birthday card

Happy Saturday! Time for another Card Patterns sketch, remember to check out the site to see the cards of the rest of the Design Team. Here’s the great sketch by Michelle:

And my card:

I wanted to play around with my new Spring Distress Inks. The background was made by sponging the inks on white paper, misting with Perfect Pearls and water and stamping on top when the paper was dry (using Shaded Lilac). The focal image was stamped with Archival Ink Aquamarine and inked with Squeezed Lemon and Shaded Lilac. The panel behind it is a piece of canvas which was coloured with Squeezed Lemon reinker, Perfect Pearls and water and then stamped.

Thank you for visiting! Have a great weekend! My CSI layout for this week is a bit late, I am hoping to post it tomorrow.

Card Patterns Sketch 166: Flower Fence

Hi everyone! A second post for today (if you are here for my CSI layout, see the post below). Here’s my card for this week’s Card Patterns sketch. This week we are sponsored by Designed2Delight. Here’s the great sketch by Michelle:

I turned the sketch and used a tag shape instead of an oval, because it fit better with the stamp I was using:

The garden scene was coloured with coloured pencils and I added bling to the blue flowers. The tag was matted to make is stand out better from the background. I also used some quilled pieces (a fringed flower from my tutorial and a little butterfly) that I found in my scraps. The background is three pieces of patterned papers which were toned down a bit by dry-brushing white paint on top. I left the card without a sentiment, so I can just add a sentiment later which will fit the occasion.

The fringed flower uses yellow and pink paper, with a white centre.

Close-up of the quilled butterfly.

Thank you for looking! I hope you can play along with us this week.

Card Patterns #165: Beauty in Nature

Today it is stash week at Card Patterns and I felt like doing a piece of scenic stamping. Here’s the great sketch by Michelle:

Lots of possibilities with this sketch.

I am very impressed by how well the Distress Markers stamp on the Specialty Stamping paper, when doing the direct to rubber technique. I wanted to try it with my scenic stamps. It turned out really well, I particularly like the multi-green colour of the trees. The main stamp was inked with three shades of green (Peeled Paint, Forest Moss, Pine Needles), shades of brown (Brushed Corduroy, Vintage Photo, Walnut Stain, Frayed Burlap) and a bit of Pumice Stone for the stones. I huffed on it and then stamped it. The canoe stamp was inked with Vintage Photo and Walnut Stain marker.

The Speciality Stamping paper is a matte coated paper and because it is coated images stamped with dye inks don’t smear when you apply more ink on top, just as with glossy cardstock, which is also coated. With ordinary cardstock, the stamped scene would smear a bit when ink was sponged on top. I used a Colorbox Stylus tool to apply the ink, starting with the lighest shade and building up colour. Aqua, Stonewashed, Denim for the sky and water and brown shades for the cabin and canoe. The water pattern was stamped with Stonewashed, the grass with Forest Moss and the birds with Faded Jeans. Highlights were added with a white gel pen.

The two background cardstock pieces are kraft core cardstock, embossed, sanded and inked.

The branch was a left over from another project and is grungeboard that has been embossed with Distress embossing powder. The bird was also in my box of scraps (kraft core coated with Distress Stickles).

Thank you for visiting! I hope you can play along with us this week, remember to check out the cards of the rest of the DT on the Card Patterns blog. You can win a guest designer spot.

I will post my CSI layout tomorrow, I still need to edit the photos and write the text and it is getting a bit late here now.

Card Patterns Sketch #164

Back again with my card for Card Patterns sketch #164. This week we are sponsored by Prickley Pear stamps. I hope you can play along with us! Here’s the fun sketch:

And my card:

I used the sweet Sm. Vase with Heart stamp and coloured it on the rubber with my new Distress markers. It was stamped on Ranger’s Speciality Stamping paper, love the matte surface and the great impression I got of the stamp. The green background paper, is the same paper, inked with Bundled Sage and splattered with water. Two of the ribbon flowers were dyed to match the colours of the card.

Card Patterns Sketch #163

This week it is stash week at Card Patterns and I had fun making a clear card. Here’s the fun sketch, lots of possibilities with this one:

I hope you can play along with us! My card:

I wanted to do a clear card today. The background transperancy is dry embossed. The four panels were stamped with bright colours Archival ink. Four small hearts and one bigger heart were die-cut from clear modeling film. The tiny heart is such a great little size. The small once were inked with yellow alcohol ink and the bigger heart with two shades of pink, finishing off with white alcohol ink to make the opaque. Rub-ons were added to the hearts and then they were heated and shaped.

Card Patterns Sketch #162

Another post for today, my card for this week’s Card Pattern’s sketch. This week the team is sponsored by Sparkle Creations. Here’s the sketch designed by Tracy:

I turned the sketch vertically to make it fit better with the stamp I was using. Here’s my card:

The boy was stamped with Archival Jet Black in on watercolour paper and coloured with watercolours. Originally he was holding an apple, but I gave him a chipboard butterfly to hold instead and he also got a little crown. Both pieces were painted with Adirondack dimensional Pearls Paint (Stream and Butterscotch). The crown was too big, so I cut off a bit on each side.

The background is dry embossed and sanded Core’dinations cardstock, and two pieces of patterned paper. For the sentiment, I cut a Tattered Banner and added a crown and the word ‘special’ with rub-ons. I need a lot of kiddies birthday cards and this one will fit perfectly.

Card Patterns sketch #161 - Bundle of Joy

Time for another fun Card Patterns sketch! This week we are sponsored by Clear & Simple Stamps and the DT got to play with some newly released stamps. My set Special Bundle has very cute welcome baby images and a lot of sentiments. I particularly like that the sentiments are small, since I prefer small sentiments over large ones. Here’s the sketch designed by Tracy:

Here’s my card:

I stamped the bird with Archival Ink French Ultramarine and the legs with Versafine Onyx Black. Then I stamped the text repeatedly over the background using Malted Milk ink. The basket was stamped on patterned paper, cut out and mounted with foam adhesive. The frame was stamped on patterned paper and the sentiment stamped inside with the blue ink. The doily was misted with Stormy Sky reinker, Perfect Pearls and water.

For the background I cut two pieces of printed kraft paper diagonally and then applied gesso on top through a stencil. I got it a bit too thick in places, but decided to use it anyway.

I even found a tiny clothes’ peg in my stash, same as on the sketch and fitting well with the baby theme.

Thank you for looking! I hope you can play along with us this week, check out all the DT cards here.

Card Patterns sketch #160

Saturday and time for another Card Patterns sketch! I hope you can play along with us this week, check out the work of the rest of the DT here. This week we are sponsored by Prickley Pear stamps. Here’s the great sketch by Michelle:

And my card:

I die cut the focal panel from watercolour paper and stamped the Tulip Fairy with Versafine Onyx Black and clear embossed the image. Then it was coloured with Distress Inks smeared on my craft sheet and misted with Perfect Pearls and water (Dusty Concord, Scattered Straw, Bundled Sage, Pumice Stone). I used a watercolour pencil for the skin areas. The leaves were die cut from grungepaper, painted cream, coated with Glossy Accents and sprinkled with green glitter.

The background is a leftover piece of watercolour paper coloured with Distress Inks and water. It was stamped repeatedly with the sweet heart background stamp using Lavender Jenni Bowlin ink. The purple strip is Core’dinations paper which was embossed and sanded.

For the sentiment I die cut a tattered banner, inked it a bit and added a rub-on.

Thank you for looking!

Card Patterns sketch #158

I hope you had a great weekend! Sorry for posting my Card Patterns card a day late. This week we are sponsored by My Favorite Things. Here’s the fun sketch by Michelle:

And here’s my card:

I stamped the sweet girl on the swing on watercolour paper and stamped the one part of the tree twice to make the tree part bigger. It was coloured with watercolours. The sentiment panel was coloured with the same red as the dress and then misted with Perfect Pearls. I really like the tiny patterns stamps on the By the Numbers set and used the woodgrain stamp repeatedly on the mat behind the focal image (inking it first), the tiny music notes on the cardstock base, and the tiny dots on the watercoloured and misted doily.

Thank you for visiting! Don't forget to check the Card Patterns blog for the cards or the rest of the DT. I hope you can play along with us!

I turned the sketch, to make it work better with the stamp I was using. Here’s my card:

I wanted to get a soft look and stamped the Lantern Rin on vellum using Stazon ink. Then I coloured on the back of the vellum with coloured pencils, blending the colours with a white pencil. A frame was dry embossed around the vellum and it was mounted on white ledger paper. I also used a piece of washi tape, which fit well with the theme.

Card Patterns #156: Nature Inspired

This week it is stash week at Card Patterns and I wanted to do a scenic stamping card.

Here’s the great sketch by Michelle:

And here’s my card:

The scene is done on glossy cardstock and coloured with dye inks using a Colorbox Stylus Tool. All the stamping is done with Archival Jet Black ink, except for the water pattern. The Sedge Bank was stamped first and I made it a little big bigger with the Tall Grass stamp. The maple trees were stamped second, wiping off some of the ink at the base of the trunks to make the blend into the grass easier. I wanted to grass to be vibrantly green and billowing and used several shades of green inks, starting with the lighter colour and gradually building up darker layers. Grass often look better if you add a little bit of brown too and I like to use Adirondack Pesto for the darker parts, which is a greenish brown (or perhaps rather a brownish green). The water and the sky were coloured with blue, pink and a bit of purple inks. Highlights and flowers were added with gel pens and finally white pigment ink was sponged on the scene for a bit of mist.

The base cardstock was stamped with a script stamp using Chewing Gum ink, wiping some of the ink off before stamping for a distressed look. The circles were cut from Core’dinations cardstock, the green one was sanded and the pink was embossed, sanded and cut into two pieces.
Thank you for visiting! Check out the Card Patterns blog for the work of the rest of the DT. I hope you can play along with us!

Card Patterns #155

Saturday and time for another fun Card Patterns sketch. This week we are sponsored by DRS Designs rubber stamps. Remember to check out the Card Patterns blog to see the work of the rest of the DT.

I always enjoy circle elements on a sketch. Here’s the sketch:

Here’s my card:

I started out with the circle, gluing botanical text paper to grungepaper and die cutting a circle. Then several layers of Picket Fence Distress Stain was added to the text paper to tone it down. The Vertical Triple Tree stamp was stamped three times using Archival Olive ink and a stamp positioned for precise placement. The edges were inked a bit. For the border piece one edge of the Fanfare Square frame was white embossed three times on manila cardstock. Then the piece was inked with Bundled Sage and Pine Needles and misted with a bit of water. The great little sentiment was also white embossed on manila cardstock and then inked with Frayed Burlap. I used a lace die to cut strips from green Kraft core paper, sanded a bit and added them to the joint between the two background papers.

Thank you for stopping by! Have a wonderful weekend!

Supplies: DRS Designs: Vertical Triple Tree, One Line Happy Thoughts Greeting, Fanfare Square; Distress Ink: Frayed Burlap, Pine Needles, Bundled Sage; Distress Stain: Picket Fence; Archival ink Olive; Tim Holtz patterned paper; Ranger manila cardstock; Spellbinders circle die; Sizzix Tim Holtz Vintage Lace die; buttons; twine.

Card Patterns #154

A second post for today, my card for this week’s Card Patterns sketch. This week we are sponsored by My Favorite Things, and I played around with several fun stamps and dies. Here’s the fabulous sketch designed by Michelle:

And here’s my card:

The adorable sheep was stamped with Versafine on watercolour paper and clear embossed. Then I painted it with watercolours. To get the texture on the pants, I dotted a piece of tissue on the paint before it dried. The background was done with the watercolour and cling wrap technique I described in this post. I wanted it to look as if the sheep was sitting in a field of grass, so I mixed some sunny, yellow green paint. The grass was die cut from a darker piece.

I have wanted a speech bubble die for a long time, so I was happy to get this one. I inked it a bit before stamping the sentiment. A piece of white cardstock was inked with Tattered Rose and Spun Sugar Distress Ink and the flower was die cut from it. The pink background piece was cut from the same cardstock. The flower was stamped repeatedly with a small dot stamp from the By the Numbers set, and the background piece with a music note stamp. Love those tiny music notes. The background is a piece of dry embossed and sanded Core’dinations paper.

A close up of the flower:

Card Patterns 153: Saying Hello

I am sorry for not having posted this yesterday evening, it got too late before I had a chance to sit down at the computer. I love this week’s Card Patterns sketch designed by Tracy, with ten awesome little squares. Here it is:

Don't forget to check the Card Patterns blog for the cards by the rest of the team. Here's my card:

The squares on the sketch made me think of the card I made with inchies last week. I found two canvas scrap pieces, one was yellow, one blue and die cut 5 inchies from each. The blue squares were stamped with background stamps using Faded Jeans ink, misting the stamp a couple of times before stamping. The yellow squares were stamped with Wild Honey ink.

For the background, I adhered tissue tape to a piece of cream cardstock, making sure to get it pretty wrinkled. Then it was coloured with Antique Linen Distress Stain and sponged with Walnut Stain Distress Ink. The trim was dyed with Tumbled Glass Distress Ink. The flourishes were die cut from cream paper and coloured with Walnut Stain distress stain.

You might recognize the quilled sunflower from my Fringed Flower tutorial. Here’s how I made it:

I used a Tim Holtz On the Edge die and die cut a 15 cm strip of yellow patterned paper (about 2 cm wide). Then I cut between each scallop, creating rounded and pretty wide fringes.

The centre was done by fringing two shades brown quilling paper (7 mm) and rolling them up together. I cut a strip about 1 cm wide from brown patterned paper and fringed that and rolled it around the inner centre. The fringes were inked with Walnut Stain.

Then the yellow fringes were rolled around the centre, and also inked a bit. Instead of flattening the inner centre, I pressed it from the back to give it a rounded appearance. Then glue was applied at the back to keep everything in place.

My card is also inspired by this month's Hero Arts challenge, and by two Winterfest challenges at Two Peas (Hidden Potential and Background Check).

Thank you for stopping by!!
