Embroidery Florals Tag

Hello crafters! I hope you are well and had a good weekend!

Tag It is our theme this week at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog! Tags are such a fun shape. Make a stand alone tag, add a small tag to something or make a tag card. Lots of options!

Don't miss the last project by our August guest designer Carrie Swift aka Redfire Studies.

I love to make tags! There is something about the dimensions and often vertical shape that I like. Tags are carefree and a perfect place to experiment with techniques. For this week's challenge I made a tag with a textured crackle background combined with a watercolored flower.

Layers of ink - Embroidery Florals Tag tutorial by Anna-Karin Evaldsson. Coat with crackle paste.

Start by coating a tag with gesso and when dry, add Distress Crackle Paste. The thicker the paste, the larger the cracks. I didn't cover the entire tag.

When the tag is dry, paint with Distress Paint and mist with water to blend. Add more paint here and there until you are happy with the result.

Let the tag dry. It might take a while. Add a little Sizzix Silver Luster Wax with your finger.

I really like this Create stamp set and the coordinating dies from the Simon Says Stamp Sunny Vibes release. So many versatile sentiments. Stamp 'Create' with Grapefruit ink on inky watercolor paper and die cut with the coordinating die. I die cut it once more from grey cardstock. Stamp one of the small sentiments too and die cut.

The crackle background is pretty cool, and the bits of silver adds even more texture.

I glued Simon Says Stamp Dazzling Gems Warm Tones to the background. They are so shiny.

The flower was adhered with Simon Says Stamp Pawsitively Perfect Foam Tape. The coordinating die cuts the flower design out with great details and is so much easier than cutting with scissors and/or a craft knife.

I added some dyed cheese cloth / mummy cloth at the bottom of the tag to create soil for the flower. The sentiment was adhered with foam tape.

Dye the May Arts Faux Wrinkled Silk ribbon with the same dye inks that you used on the project.

My favorite parts of the background might be where the crackle areas meet the areas without crackles.

Vintage Frame Canvas

Hello crafters! Today I have a mixed media canvas to share, using a vintage frame, crackle paste and a bunch of ephemera. The techniques can be used on other surfaces too.

Layers of ink - Vintage Frame Canvas Tutorial by Anna-Karin Evaldsson.

I found the vintage frame in a second hand store some time ago and used together with a childhood photo of my dad. The canvas is about 4x4 in. Stamped labels, idea-ology ephemera, tissue paper and crackle paste were used to build up the layers, together with some bits and pieces.

Start by applying matte medium to the canvas and place Tim Holtz Typography tissue paper into the medium. Add wrinkles and then add another layer of medium on top of the tissue paper.

Add a little crackle paste here and there with a palette knife.

When the paste is dry, crackles will appear. Paint with watered-down Ground Espresso distress paint.

Apply a tiny bit of Sizzix Gold Luster Wax to the project, with your finger.

Stamp labels on Tim Holtz Backdrops papers using Simon Says Stamp Pawsitively Saturated Cadette ink and Red Geranium Archival Ink. Die cut with the Mixed Labels coordinating dies. The larger stamp comes from Simon Says Stamp Document It and the smaller labels from Mixed Labels.

Layer the labels under the frame and add a small piece of mummy cloth / cheese cloth. Fold up some of the edges.

You can also stamp sentiments directly on the background. Tie the frame with twine and glue to the canvas.

Add the flowers in a couple of place and two postage stamps from Tim's ephemera packs.

I also glued a few vintage buttons to the canvas. Here you can see the effect of the Gold Luster Wax well.

Stamp small sentiments on the areas of the labels and ticket which show.

I really like the effect of crackle paste and all that texture.

Labels are great 'homes' for sentiments and titles.

Behind my dad there are lots of drawings from his class mates.

Pastel Easter Decor

Hello crafters! Easter comes early this year and today I am sharing an Easter decor tutorial, with pastel colors and glitter. You can also use the techniques for other themes, it doesn't have to be for Easter.

Please note: this post has affiliate links, for which I receive a small percentage of sales generated by the link, at no extra cost to you.

Layers of ink - Pastel Easter Decor with Bunnies tutorial by Anna-Karin Evaldsson.

I wanted to make a project with the happy bunnies from Tim Holtz Vault Hippity Hop dies and decided to use an Etcetera panel as my base. The project is about 5.3 x 7 in. The mixed media background can be used for many different projects and you can of course change the colors to get a completely different look. I used both texture and crackle paste for the background, combined with Distress Paint, stamping and Stickles glitter gel.

Paint the Etcetera panel with gesso. I added two coats. Let the gesso dry in between applications.

Stamp the background here and there with the alphabet stamp from Tim Holtz School Desk set.

Add Crackle Paste at the base.

Cracks appear as the paste dries. The thicker the paste, the larger the cracks.

Paint with Distress Paint and add water to blend.

Die cut the Tim Holtz Hippity Hop bunnies from collage paper. I made this paper for a different project and had left-overs. Glue pieces of old book paper to watercolor paper, coat with gesso in an uneven manner. Let dry. It's a great paper to use for many different types of projects.

Paint the bunnies with Distress Paint and mist with water.

I also decided to die cut three butterflies (also from the Hippity Hop set) from the collage paper and paint them.

Layers of ink - Pastel Easter Decor with Bunnies tutorial by Anna-Karin Evaldsson.

I die cut the butterflies from glitter paper and from vellum too, shaped the wings and layered them.

Layers of ink - Pastel Easter Decor with Bunnies tutorial by Anna-Karin Evaldsson. Add Ranger stickles glitter gel.

Apply Ranger Moon Dust Stickles Glitter Gel to the background - of course before gluing everything in place (I forgot to take a photo). Let dry.

Use sequins to create a trail behind the butterflies. Add a Tim Holtz Bouquet Flower to one of the bunnies.

Layers of ink - Pastel Easter Decor with Bunnies tutorial by Anna-Karin Evaldsson. Add a shadow to the bunnies.

To make the bunnies stand out from the background, I die cut them again from Simon Says Stamp Slate cardstock and offset it slightly to create a shadow.

The old book paper, gesso and paint adds an interesting, but still subtle, texture to the bunnies.

You can mix Distress Paint to get the shade you are looking for.

I added sequins to the buds on the glitter die cuts.

Layers of ink - Pastel Easter Decor with Bunnies tutorial by Anna-Karin Evaldsson. Coat the letters with Glossy Accents.

The title was die cut with the alphabet dies from the Hippity Hop set. It was die cut from Simon Says Stamp yellow glitter paper and Slate cardstock. Glue together. Add a layer of Glossy Accents to the letters for a finished look.

Some of the Bouquet Flowers were colored with yellow shades of Distress Ink. The heart beads have been in my stash for a very long time.

I added a piece of lace trim at the bottom of the panel. The stamped sentiment at the top comes from Tim's Crazy Talk and was stamped on a Journal Card.

See you soon again!
