Butterfly Artist Trading Cards

Hello friends! I hope you are well! There is a chill in the air here, but I hope summer will remain a little longer.

This week we have a Play with ATCs theme at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog. I hope you will join us! Artist Trading Cards are such a fun format to work on (3.5x2.5 in). Don't miss the beautiful project by our August guest designer Ann Chuang.

I made two ATCs with a butterfly theme. The cards were stamped so that they can fit together on both sides. I only stamped each butterfly once. The butterflies were colored with Prismacolor pencils, which also acts as a resist, protecting them from the inking, so you do not need to do any masking.

This is how they fit together from the other sides.

Stamp with Tim Holtz Perspective.

I started by cutting a two ATCs from heavystock paper. They are 3.5 x 2.5 in. Place them together and stamp Tim Holtz Perspective Butterfly. Make sure to place the stamp so that the entire body is on one of the cards.

Stamp again with Tim Holtz Flutter.

Switch the cards around and repeat with a butterfly from Tim Holtz Flutter set. Stamp the body on the card that only has wings.

Color with Prismacolor Pencils.

Color them with Prismacolor pencils. I aimed for strong, contrasting colors.

Ink with Distress Ink.

Ink with Distress Inks using an ink-blending tool.

Add dots and highlights with a white gel pen and darken some of the details with a black pen.

Stamp with Tim Holtz Craze.

Stamp the sentiment with Simon Says Stamp Beautiful Butterflies. Stamp here and there with Tim Holtz Craze & Planks stamp, using Archival Ink Potting Soil.

Splatter with white gouache.

Butterflies are always fun to color! The card with the large butterfly can easily be on its own too.

I found some tiny butterfly charms in an old box and stitched them to the card.

This sentiment was stamped with Tim Holtz Tiny Text.

On the second card, the focus is on the smaller butterfly and the sentiment.

Add Simon Says Stamp Pawsitively Dazzling Gems.

I distressed the edges slightly and added Simon Says Stamp Pawsitively Dazzling Mandarin Gems to the cards.

Try not to get too much crackle stamping on the butterflies, but if you do, it doesn't matter.

White gel pens are great for adding highlights.

Blue and Gold tag

Hello crafters! Today I have a tag to share with a resist effect combined with a dark blue background and metallic gold elements.

I was in the mood for a project with a dark background, but also wanted to use these fine leafy stamps from Simon Says Stamp Wildflower Cuttings. I decided to go with two resist techniques: heat embossing and colored pencils.

Stamp with Simon Says Stamp Wildflower Cuttings.

Start by white embossing several of the detailed leafy designs from Simon Says Stamp Wildflower Cuttings. This stamp set comes from the new Friend Like You release.

Color with pencils.

Color the leaves with Prismacolor pencils.

Ink with Distress Ink.

Ink the tag with plenty of Distress Ink. The embossing and the colored pencil will resist the ink.

Add Tim Holtz Foundry Wax.

Apply Tim Holtz Gold Foundry Wax around the edges with a paint brush. Heat to activate.

Add dots of wax around the edges with a tooth pick.
Die cut Simon Says Stamp Giggle Thank You.

Die cut Simon Says Stamp Giggle Thank You from gold metallic kraft stock and from black cardstock.

Add sticker sentiments using Tim Holtz Metallic Sticker Book.

Layer the sentiments together to form dimensional words.

Travel Adventure Tag Tutorial

Hi stampers! It is a new week and I hope you had a fun weekend.

This week we have a Vacation theme at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog. Remember to check out the project by our June guest designer Wanda Hentges.

Layers of ink - Travel Adventure Tag Tutorial by Anna-Karin Evaldsson.

I made a tag in memory of last year's vacation, using, stamps, ink and colored pencils. I really enjoy searching for and then using a bunch of different stamps that fit the theme of a project. Colored pencils were used for coloring and at the same time also give a resist effect.

Stamp the tag with the city from Tim Holtz Rockstar.

Start by stamping the city from Tim Holtz Rockstar and the plane from Warehouse District with black ink.

Color with pencils.

Color the plane and the city with pencils. I used Prismacolor pencils. Continue by stamping a compass, a word stamp and numbers.

Color with a white pencil.

Color the numbers with a white pencil and use the white pencils in the uncolored areas of the city too. It will protect the background from ink.

Ink with Distress Ink.

Ink the background with Distress Ink.

Stamp with Simon Says Stamp Crackle Background.

Stamp here and there with Simon Says Stamp Crackle Background.

Stamp with Tim Holtz Odds & Ends.

Stamp tickets from Tim Holtz Odds & Ends on an inky paper and cut out. Ink the edges. Stamp sentiments from Curiosity Shop.

Stamp stars and numbers using Tim's Correspondence set using Red Geranium Archival Ink.

Coat with Glossy Accents.

Add Glossy Accents to the numbers and to the center of the compasses.

When stamping compasses, I try to make sure to stamp them the right way around.

Add Simon Says Stamp Pawsitively Dazzling Gunmmetal Gems.

I also glued a few Simon Says Stamp Pawsitively Dazzling Gunmetal Gems to the background.

Tim Holtz Warehouse District.

I used a white gel pen to add some highlights to the plane, since it was looking a little dark and needed to stand out better from the background.

The sentiments fit well on the lines of the ticket.

Here you can maybe see the effect of the Glossy Accents on the numbers.

The touches of red work well on the tag.

I used a white gel pen for highlights on the city too. The ticket was folded around the bottom edge of the tag.
