Layers of ink - Mosaic Tag with Flowers Tutorial by Anna-Karin Evaldsson.

I made a tag with a mosaic background for the Simon Says Stamp Out Of This World blog hop and this is another version of a mosaic tag, using a different technique for the background.

I started with squares of paper which had been watercolored with my Zig Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolor paint. They were left-over from another project where I made a color sampler in my art journal. You can find that tutorial here. Glue them to watercolor paper. The squares were die cut with Tim Holtz Stacked Squares.

The title was die cut with Simon Says Stamp You Shine die from heavystock paper, which was inked with Cantaloupe ink, from Velvet paper and from glitter paper. The Tim Holtz Small Talk Sticker was inked with Spring ink.

Don't worry if the stamping isn't perfect. Stray dots of embossing powder is one of my favorite things.

I also added some pearls to the tag.

The Simon Says Stamp Pawsitively Saturated Inks are great for dying ribbon.

Blue Flowers Card

Hi crafters! This card was inspired by beautiful blue flowers that I have had at home recently. The flowers had lovely shades of blue with a hint of white.

I used the Simon Says Stamp Dahlia Delights 3-D embossing folder and dies from the new Out Of This World release. I really like these combined embossing and die cutting sets. You can use each on its own, or combine them as I did here.

Layers of ink - Blue Flowers Textured Card Tutorial by Anna-Karin Evaldsson. Ink with Distress Ink.

For the background I smeared Distress Inks on a non-stick craft sheet, misted with water and pressed watercolor paper into the ink. Let dry and repeat until you are happy with the look.

When dry, ink with Frayed Burlap and Ground Espresso.

Finally, add some Sizzix Gold Luster Wax to the background with your finger.

The Luster Wax gives a really nice shine to the background. It will mainly get stuck to the embossed areas, which makes them stand out better.

Die cut the three flowers and emboss them in the same Dahlia Delights folder. It might be a little tricky to find the right position for the flowers in the folder. Try to line them up on the embossed paper first and then place them in the same place in the folder.

Smear Distress Ink on a non-stick craft sheet, mist with water and pick up with a paint brush. Watercolor the flowers.

Add highlights with a white gel pen.

Shape the flowers a little, add a rhinestone to the center, ink the edges and adhere with foam tape.

This sentiment comes from Simon Says Stamp Birthday Shenanigans and was stamped with Simon Says Stamp Royal Pawsitively Saturated ink.

This sentiment is from the same Birthday Shenanigans set and was stamped on left-over inky cardstock.

The ink and Luster Wax adds texture and definition to the background. Distress the edges before assembling the card.

At the sea mixed media tutorial

Hello crafters! On Friday we celebrated the traditional Midsummer in Sweden, with a maypole, dancing and strawberries.

This week we have a Vacation theme at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog. I hope you will join us! Don't miss the last project by our June guest designer Kerry B.

Layers of ink - At the sea mixed media tutorial by Anna-Karin Evaldsson.

I created a tranquil seaside scene in my art journal this week using acrylic paint and a palette knife. Being at the sea is wonderful almost any time of the year, but mostly so during summer. I made the little boats out of design tape and an old dictionary page. The dictionary page was about the sea.

Layers of ink - At the sea mixed media tutorial by Anna-Karin Evaldsson. Apply gesso.

I worked in my large Dylusions Journal. Start by coating the page with gesso, adding a horizon line and som gentle waves. Place cheese cloth or mummy cloth into the gesso and add more gesso on top.

Layers of ink - At the sea mixed media tutorial by Anna-Karin Evaldsson. Paint the sunset.

When the gesso was dry, I painted the page using a palette knife and Dina Wakley's acrylic paints. Start with the beach and the sun.

Continue with the sea using shades of blue and turquoise and mixing in some white here and there.

Continue in the same way with the sky, making it lighter towards the horizon line.

Add a darker shade of turquoise at the top of the sky and towards the beach, this adds a sense of perspective. I used Dina's Ocean color. Add some Ground Espresso Distress Paint to the beach area. When the paint is dry, dabb on white to create clouds, foam and highlights.

Adhere Tim Holtz Chatter Design Tape words to heavystock paper and cut into boat shapes. Draw the sail on dictionary paper and cut out.

Stamp birds with Tim Holtz Mini Ornates and words with Simon Says Stamp Forest Scenery. Add more white if needed.

Dina Wakley's acrylic paint is thicker than Distress Paint, making it easier to get these types of textured effects.

I am very fond of repeat stamping words without reinking.

I added shading under the boats with a black pen.

The dictionary paper is from a page about the sea, which is a nice detail. But you can use any type of old book instead.

Ink the edges of the sails and the boats slightly.

The cheese cloth gives an interesting texture to the beach.

Layers of ink - At the sea mixed media tutorial by Anna-Karin Evaldsson. Tim Holtz Tiny Text.

I stamped sentiments from Tim Holtz Tiny Text on inky papers and cut into strips.

A border was drawn around the sentiments with a black pen.

It is a lot of fun to paint with a palette knife.

Using a paint brush would have given a different look to the scene.

If I wasn't working in my art journal, I might have added some real shells to the beach area, but I try to keep the pages in my journals fairly flat.

I hope you will join us this week in our Vacation challenge. You have a chance to win a $25 gift voucher to do some fun shopping at Simon Says Stamp. You have until Monday 8am Ohio time. 1pm UK time, 2 pm CET to join in.
