Hi friends! I hope you had a good weekend! We had great weather, but this morning it snowed again. On the 8th of May! It didn't remain on the ground luckily.
This week at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog we have an
It's a Frame Up challenge. Fun! Don't miss the project by our May guest designer Dr Sonia, aka
Cards, Crafts, Kids Projects.
I had too many ideas for this challenge, and then happened to spot this photo that I recently found of my grandmother when she was young (scanned and printed). My grandfather's big hobby was photography and he also had his own darkroom at home, so there are lots of photographs of my grandmother, but I hadn't before seen this album with photos that he took before my mother was born. I wanted this photo up on my wall and decided to use a
burlap panel as my base, and lots and lots of layers.
I used one of the lovely papers from Tim Holtz
Etcetera pad as my base, inked and distressed the edges. Everything was glued down with Matte Medium, which is my favorite glue. The
metallic hearts are by Prima and were distressed with a bit of paint.
The
Ornate Frame was die cut from
grungeboard and painted with gesso. Next I added a layer of Peacock Feathers, since turquoise was one of my grandmother's favorite colors. On top of that there is a thin layer of
Distress Crazing Medium, applied with my finger. When dry, I rubbed a brown Distress Crayon into the cracks to make them show. But I wanted more shine, and thought I'd try misting the whole piece with
Pearl Mica Spray. The effect is really lovely and not captured well on photo.
This pattern came from the patterned paper too, I cut it out and inked the edges. The butterflies are from the
Snippets Ephemera set.
I wanted lots of layers, and used a Pocket Card (with the grey stripes) as well as a piece of
Eclectic Elements fabric. This particular fabric has the background of studio photos printed on it, which worked well for my theme. For the title, I used a
Quote Chip and Chit Chat stickers.
I love the flowers of Tim Holtz new
Illustrated Garden set, and stamped one of them on watercolor paper and watercolored it with Distress Ink, to match the flowers in the patterned paper to the top right of the panel. I also really like the new
Tiny Things 2 set and the dress form comes from there.
I wanted more flowers, and misted some
Bouquet flowers with Distress Spray Stain as well as the Mica Spray.
As a border, I used an inked
Ruler Piece, as well as a ribbon and a Small Talk sticker.
One thing I love about the burlap panels is that they have a base of wood, which makes them very easy to hang. I simply screw
Screw Eyes into the top and tie a piece of twine through them.
I really hope you will join us in our
It's a Frame Up challenge.
