Winter Village Tag Tutorial

Hello everyone! I hope you had a good weekend! I took out our electric chandeliers and stars and placed them in the windows, which is something you see in most Swedish houses during December. It lights up the dark really nicely. Yesterday we also had snow again and we went to a traditional Christmas market.

It is Monday and this week at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge we have a O' Christmas Tree challenge. I am looking forward to seeing what everyone will come up with.

I created a wintery Christmas village on a tag this week, and had such fun with the new Christmas Town stamp set from Simon Says Stamp. The mixed media background has layers of stars, text and colour. In December, I take out all my Christmas themed tags and hang them on my Tim Holtz Clip Carousel. It is fun to look through the Christmas tags from years past and looks nice as a decoration. I'll try to remember to take a photo of it and share on the blog.

This is the Christmas Town stamp set that I used, it has two houses, a church, a little snowman, lamppost, trees, gifts, snowdrifts and two sentiments. You could make so many different scenes with this set and the houses can be used for any season.

I've been looking forward to trying out Tim Holtz's new Distress Mixed Media Heavystock, since I really like heavy paper. Heavy paper can often handle more techniques than thinner paper, and I will be using this new paper a lot. It has a great light cream colour too. I die cut the tag with the Tag & Bookplates die.

The Tiny Stars embossing folder was stamped with one of the stamps in the Reflections stamp set. I hadn't done this technique in a while, and it is such a great technique. Place the tag in the folder and emboss. The ink transfers to the tag, but not to the embossed stars, so it looks like the text is behind the stars.

I added some stamped stars using the three little stars on the Winter Village set. Then the tag was coated with Clear Gesso. This gives a base for the next step, using Distress Crayons.

The tag was coloured with Distress Crayons, and I used a slightly moist cloth to wipe some of the colour off the embossed stars. I left the bottom part, under the embossed stars, uncoloured, since I was planning to add washi tape there.

The village images were stamped on watercolour paper with Jet Black ink and watercoloured with Distress Inks.

I layered them on the background, using foam dots for the green house and the trees.

The church is such a great image, you could also cut off the tower part to get an ordinary house instead.

The green house is my favourite, with the picket fence in front. I also have a thing for lamp posts.

The wreath was stamped on the door before colouring and I also painted a few extra bricks on the house.

The three little snowmen hold hands and are adhered with foam dots. At the bottom of the tag, I added a piece of Carta Bella Snowman washi tape. Love it. And there is also some tinsel twine from Tim Holtz, which always gives a festive look.

The tie was made by folding a piece of Tidings Design Tape over on itself, crumbling it up a bit and using it as a ribbon.

I love the little idea-ology pinecones and used them as they are here. If you look at my Deer Winter Shadow Box, I coloured them white there.

Here's a closer look on the background. I really like the bits of text showing here and there behind the stars.

The snowflakes were die cut with the Simon Says Stamp Snow Flurries die, which contains six great snowflakes in different sizes. I die cut it from silver Deco Sheet, first adhering the Deco Sheet to a piece of cardstock.
