Sheltering Flowers

Hi friends!! I hope you had a good weekend! We were at the sea one of the days, which was lovely. This week at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge blog we are having a 'citrus with a twist challenge'. Twisted Citron has me thinking about all things citrus, neon, and fresh! This week, from oranges to bright fresh color, we want to see how you’ll use citrus… with your own twist.

I've set up an Instagram account now, you can find it here, if you want to follow. It will probably be a mix of craft photos, projects in process photos, and some everyday life photos.

I started thinking about the saying 'when life gives you lemons, make lemonade', and that made me think of sheltering loved ones from at least some of those lemons. Somehow that turned into an idea of making a soft bed for Leo under some pretty flowers, in a summer garden. Since I love the new Distress Twisted Citron colour, I also used quite a bit of it here, together with Squeezed Lemonade.

The background was done by smearing Distress Inks in horizontal bands on a Sizzix Cutting Pad, misting quite many times with water and pressing it against a page in my Small Creative Journal. This creates an instant watercolour background. When it was dry, I used the Mesh stencil and Twisted Citron on the grass part of the scene. A grass stamp was inked up with Squeezed Lemonade, Twisted Citron and a tiny bit of Mowed Lawn, misted four times and stamped on the background. I repeated it until I was happy with the texture.

The flowers were stamped on watercolor paper with Jet Black ink and watercoloured with Twisted Citron and Squeezed Lemonade. I stamped the stems at different angles. Since they are thin stamps, it is easy to position them in different ways on an acrylic block.

This sentiment comes from the You're so Sweet set by Simon Says Stamp, which also contains lemon and oranges. The little heart is from the same set.

This sentiment also comes from the same Simon Says Stamp set, stamped twice. Here you can see the effect of the grass stamped in the background.

I had a nursery song on my brain and it fitted very well with the theme. The line here translates roughly: 'oh, how nice to fall asleep, in such a pretty bed, like a flower in a meadow, in a swaying bed'. I stamped a bird's nest as a little bed and cut out one of the early baby photos of Leo. Here you can also see the stencilled tone-on-tone pattern better.

On the opposite page, I printed the full lyrics of the nursery song and added another flower.

I hope you will join us this week in our citrus with a twist challenge. As always one random participant, wins a $50 gift voucher from Simon Says Stamp

Thank you for visiting today!

Happy crafting!
