Celebrate Everyday - The Paper Crafting

Hello and welcome to my blog! I was happy to be asked to be a guest designer for The Paper Crafting's one year celebrations. The Paper Crafting is an e-magazine with lots of inspiration, geared especially towards the Scandinavian countries.

Here's my mixed media layout:

My layout doesn't focus on a specific celebration or party, but rather on the importance to celebrate the everyday, which is after all where we spend most of our time. I started out with a sheet of watercolour paper and gave it a gesso coat. To make the background, I used paint, paste, stencils, stamps and dies, which are of course some of my favourite products.

I started by smearing Ranger's Texture Paste through two different stencils, using a palette knife. When the paste was dry, I painted the page with watered down Distress Paints, letting them run and blend into each other. After the paint had dried, black paint was sponged through a Hero Arts Weeks & Months stencil, to support the theme of celebrating the everyday.

I stamped the background with an alphabet stamp and Forget-Me-Not ink, just here and there for a random look. More stamping was done with sentiment stamps by Hero Arts and Tim Holtz, using Jet Black ink. The background was also stamped with a dot stamp and Picket Fence paint, to bring in a little more white.

The crackled hearts and birds were done with Prima's White Crackle Texture Paste and stencils. When the paste had dried, I painted it with a very weak mix of Black Soot and water, just to get some colour into the cracks. You can stamp right onto the crackled surface. The cool swirly circles were die cut from old dictionary paper with Tim Holtz new Scribbles & Splat die.

The background was splattered with black paint and I also added strips of tissue tape.

The Hearts were die cut with the new Heartfelt die, layered together and stitched with embroidery floss. I liked how the crackles formed in the dots, all pointing towards the center. Here are also some more Tim Holtz sentiment stamps.

The banners were die cut with the Tattered Curvy Banner die and I also used some Artful Arrows that I found on my desk. The sentiment on this banner was stamped with alphabet stamps, translating 'life is a party'.

Don't miss all the other inspiration that will be posted on The Paper Crafting's site during the day.

And a little notice, I have started using affiliate links, today is the first day. That means that I will receive a small commission when products are purchased from links posted here, at no extra cost to you. It will help me to bring you more tutorials and inspiration. You can be sure that I will never use or recommend a product that I don't personally like myself.

Thank you so much for stopping by today and have a lovely weekend!

Happy crafting
