Wanderlust Watercolor Florals

Hello crafters! It is Monday and my first post of this new year. I hope you had a good Christmas and New Year.

We have a Light Up The New Year theme in our first Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge of the year. I hope you will join us! Since it is the first Monday of a new month, the team is showcasing a specific brand/company and this week it is Studio Light. You can find their wide range of lovely stamps, dies and paper products here. You don't have to use Studio Light's products to join, but it is fun if you do.

We also have a new guest designer and during January Monica aka My Bonnet Bee will join us in the Designer Spotlight. I hope you will stop by her blog to see what she has created.

I made a bright and happy art journal page for this challenge, stamping a field of wildflowers and coloring with Distress Watercolor Pencils. I used Studio Light Wildflowers and Wanderlust sets and worked on a cotton-rag watercolor page in my Dina Wakley Blue Edition Media Journal.

Start by stamping the lose flowers and stamp them again on Simon Says Stamp Masking paper. Mask the flowers and stamp the rest of the flower.

Add and extend stems with a black pen.

The flowers were colored with Distress Watercolor Pencils, picking the color up with a paint brush from the tip of the pencils.

I colored the sky and the grass in the same way, using a broader pencil and two shades of blue and green.

Next I added splatters, also with the watercolor pencils. Flick a paint brush against the pencil to create splatters.

I added details to the flowers with a black pen and a white gel pen.

The splatters add life and movement. You need to press a little harder than normally when stamping on this rough watercolor paper. I forgot to do that on this sentiment, but left it as it was.

Use the texture stamp from the Studio Light Wanderlust set with Simon Says Stamp Pawsitively Saturated Royal ink to stamp texture in the sky. The title comes from that same set. The birds come from Tim Holtz Mini Ornates.

The grass was stamped with Simon Says Stamp Crackle Background and green and brown inks, to add texture.

I also stamped circles and script from Studio Light Wanderlust here and there.

These flowers were such fun to color.
