Foil and Stencil Album Tutorial

Hi crafters! Today I have a mini book / notebook tutorial to share, with lots of shine created with a stencil and a foil sheet. You can also use the technique for other projects.

I made this for my eldest to use for his drawings and I knew that he likes holographic foil effects, since he often wants to use my Simon Says Stamp holographic papers. Here I used a foil sheet instead of paper, combined with the Simon Says Stamp Mix and Match Squares stencil and Sizzix 3-D adhesive.

Start by die cutting Eileen Hull's Folio Journal from Sizzix Little Sizzles mat board. This is an XL die, so you need the XL cutting pads, but it fits perfectly through an ordinary Big Shot.

I cut off the 'box' pieces from the covers. For an example of what the book looks with those pieces still on, check out my Floral Folio.

Apply gesso to the background.

When dry, paint with Distress Paint. I made a graduated background with Blueprint Sketch and Black Soot.

Apply Sizzix 3-D Adhesive through the Mix and Match Squares Stencil. Clean the stencil immediately. Let dry until the adhesive is tacky to the touch.

Place down Therm-o-web Rainbow Shattered Glass foil sheet with the shiny side up and rub.

Remove the foil sheet and the foil will have transferred to the adhesive.

The transfer might not be perfect since the paste won't be completely even, but as you know, I like those little imperfections in a project. Repeat on the back cover.

For the spine, I applied adhesive down the whole spine. Again, let dry until it is transparent and tacky.

Apply foil to the spine and glue the album together.

The binding was done with an elastic string.

I added a hole with my Crop-a-dile and tied the string through a button to secure it. Tie it again at the end to create a closure mechanism.

Cut pages for the signatures using your favorite paper. I used sketching paper for this album. Sometimes, I use a mix of sketch and watercolor paper. Stitch down the center or staple.

Slip the signatures under the elastic string. You can also easily exchange them if you want fresh papers.

I tied the ends through two beads.

The string keeps the book closed.

For even more shine, I die cut the Simon Says Stamp You Shine die from holographic cardstock and glimmery cardstock.

The background with the holographic effect and the different colors is pretty striking.

I am always happy to dig through my stash of buttons, which I used to use a lot on projects in the early days of my crafting.

The sentiments comes from Tim Holtz Label Stickers.

Try doing the technique with different colors foil sheet and using various stencils. It works great for cardmaking too.

Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by here today!

Tape and House Tag Tutorial

Hello friends! I have a tutorial using a fun mix of surfaces today: design tape, Distress crayons, patterned paper and inky paper.

Please note: this post has affiliate links, for which I receive a small percentage of sales generated by the link, at no extra cost to you.

We have a Wild With Washi theme this week at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog. I hope you will play along with us, and don't miss the project by our July guest designer Megumi aka Ink-Lady Blue.

The background of my tag is completely covered with Tim Holtz Design Tape. The design tape rolls have such interesting designs and they look great together. I also cut the sentiments from design tape and built a fun little scene with dies.

Start by applying matte medium on a tag, to make sure that the tape is stuck down well. Then cover the tag with design tape. Fold the edges around the back for a finished look.

Add some color with Distress Crayons. Smear them out with your finger.

Die cut the tall house from Tim's Paper Village set, using heavystock paper. Later, I die cut the roof from black kraft stock paper instead.

Ink with Candied Apple. No need to ink the back since that won't be visible.

Color a piece of acetate with Latte and a tiny bit of Gold Mixative alcohol ink.

Glue the acetate to the inside as windows and add a cheese cloth curtain. Assemble the house and add a street number. I dyed cheese cloth with Peeled Paint Distress Spray Stain to create grass.

Die cut one of the trees from Tim Holtz Funky Trees from Backdrop papers and the trunk from brown kraft stock paper.

Ink the edges and assemble. I used foam tape for the front pieces. Cut words from the Chatter Design Tape.

The design tape creates an interesting background and the Distress Crayons bring it all together.

The tree trunk was sanded slightly to reveal the core.

Add more sentiments cut from design tape and the tag is finished.

Dimensional Rose Tag Tutorial

Hi crafters! Today I have a tag with a watercolor stamped background and dimensional roses to share with you.

Layers of ink - Dimensional Rose Tag Tutorial by Anna-Karin Evaldsson. With Simon Says Stamp Solid Grid Background stamp.

The background for this tag is quick and easy and you'll get a different result each time. I was in the mood for dimensional flowers. The tag was embellished with seed beads and some idea-ology embellishments.

Ink the Simon Says Stamp Solid Grid Background with four shades of pink, red and purple Distress Inks. Mist with water pretty heavily and stamp on watercolor paper.

When dry, die cut a tag from your favorite part of the background. Stamp some of the squares from Mix and Match Squares with Wilted Violet Distress Oxide ink.

Die cut the roses with Tim Holtz Tattered Pinecone die. I die cut them from Backdrop papers and from red kraft-stock paper.

Trim the inside edge of the roses before rolling them together. You can also skip that step. Sand them slightly. Fold over the petals and ink the edges. Use a pair of tweezers to roll the flowers. Die cut three swirls from the same papers using Tim's Adorned die set.

The background gets this gorgeous blended look, with some of the white lines showing and some not.

I embellished the roses with seed beads from set by Sizzix and added a Field Notes ephemera butterfly on top.

Ink a Theories Quote Chips with Worn Lipstick. The sentiment stamped on the label comes from Simon Says Stamp Anna's Flowers.

A Quote Flair button and a Mini Flair button were glued to the tag.

The roses are pretty dimensional as you can see here. They would also look great on top of a gift parcel or a little box. Or you could turn them into magnets.

Use different colored papers for a large variety of flowers.
