Leaves on Kraft Tag Tutorial

Hi friends! I hope you are well and healthy! Today, I have a quick tutorial about coloring with colored pencils on kraft paper, something that works particularly well for autumn-themed projects since the kraft background naturally tints the colors.

I made a tag, but the techniques are great for cardmaking too or in your art journal. I used the Simon Says Stamp November Card Kit, but you can also get just the stamp set separately.

Start by die cutting a tag from kraft paper and stamp the larger stamp in the Big Thanks set. Then add one of the smaller flowers up in the corner.

Start coloring the flowers and leaves. I used Faber-Castell Polychromos pencils. Prismacolor pencils work great on kraft too.

Continue adding more colors, blending with a lighter shade. I used one of the yellow pencils to blend.

Make the bottom petals of the sunflowers darker with an orange pencil and add shadows and with a brown and a black pencil. This gives dimension.

Ink around the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.

Stamp the tag with the SSS Old Letter 1878 background stamp and Khaki ink, just to add some texture.

Add details and highlights with a white gel pen.

I stamped 'smile' from the Big Thanks set here and there on the tag. The sentiments come from the SSS Sentiment strips included in the November Card Kit. I also added even more ink to the edge by dragging it along the ink pad, after distressing.

The main sentiment was placed on top of a piece of lace trim.

The shading adds life to the sunflowers. I also added autumn sequins here and there. I know, there are sequins on a lot of my projects at the moment. They are such a fun final touch.
