Sparkling Butterflies Art Journal

Hi friends! I hope you are well and had a fun weekend! Spring is in the air here and today I have a butterfly-themed art journal page to share.

This week we have a Use your favorite technique theme at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog. I hope you will join us! Since it is the first Monday of a new month, the team is showcasing a specific company/designer and this week it is Dylusions by Ranger / Dyan Reaveley. You don't have to use their products to join, but it is fun if you do. You can find all the Dylusions products here.

We also have a new guest designer and during March Rox aka Red Dirt Crafter will be joining us. Don't miss the project she has created for you.

Layers of ink - Sparkling Butterflies Art Journal Tutorial by Anna-Karin Evaldsson.

I made a mixed media page in my Dylusions Small Creative Journal, which is my favorite Dylusions journal. This is my third Small Creative Journal. When it comes to favorite techniques, there is no way that I could pick one, I have too many favorites. I did a mixed media background, with some of my favorite elements: splatters, script text for texture, circles and sentiments.

I also used inky scraps for the die cuts, which is another favorite of mine and some glitter paper too.

Sponge paint through Tim Holtz Bubble stencil.

I started out with a page that had been colored with gesso and painted with left-over Distress Paint at a previous stage. I splattered it with Dylusions White Linen Ink Spray (I forgot to include the spray in the photo). When the splatters were dry, I sponged Uncharted Mariner through Tim Holtz Bubble stencil.

Stamp sentiment and script with Simon Says Stamp Old Letter.

Stamp with Simon Says Stamp Old Letter Background and also stamp the sentiments directly on the background.

Assemble the butterfly.

Die cut Simon Says Stamp Chelsea Butterfly from left-over inky paper and from Simon Says Stamp glittery cardstock in white and black. The small butterflies were die cut with Tim Holtz Vault Boutique set.

Add sparkle with Dylusions Shimmer Spray.

Glue small butterflies to the page.

Glue the butterflies on the background.

This page had been heavily misted with water after it was painted, creating these cool effects.

Lemon butterfly.

Glue the sparkly bits to the butterfly. Here you can also see the sparkle from the Shimmer Spray.

This sentiment comes from Tim Holtz Mini Muse.

Glue the smaller butterflies as a trail.

The smaller sentiments come from Tim's Tiny Text.

Place the dies on interesting areas on the scrap paper when die cutting.

Sparkly paper lemon butterfly.
