I made a mixed media canvas, but you can also use the techniques for other types of project. I wanted a light and airy summer-time look for this canvas, using the lovely Simon Says Stamp Peony Bouquet stencil.

Start by coating a canvas board with gesso. My board is 8 x 8 in. When dry, paint with Distress Paints, for a soft neutral background.

Apply texture paste through the Peony Bouquet stencil with a palette knife. Let dry.

Paint the flowers with pink paint. I mixed a little pink into white paint to get several shades.

Continue with the flower centers and leaves.

Sponge yellow paint through the Geo Leaves stencil to create a frame effect.

Add some shading with Pumice Stone paint.

I gave the canvas a frame with Grit-Paste around the edges.

Stamp the background here and there with the Simon Says Stamp Old Letter Background stamp and Hickory Smoke Archival Ink.

Sand the edges of the Theories Quote Chips to distress them.

And another sentiment chip. I also added some pearls.

The yellow adds to the summery feeling of the canvas and the grey text almost looks like it was written with a pencil.

Close up the flowers might look a little messy, but don't worry about that.
