Mother's Day Card

Hi! I have a circle card to share with you today. It's a Mother's Day card, but could be for any theme.

We have a Feminine/Mother's Day challenge at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog this week. My post is late because one of the boys is sick. Don't miss the project by our May guest designer. Since it is the first Monday of a new month, the team is showcasing a specific designer/company and this week it is Simon Says Stamp Exclusive Products. You don't have to use their products to join, but it is always fun if you do. You can see their wonderful range of products here

Our guest designer during May is Simona Rebecchi aka Ginny and the Sheep, don't miss the gorgeous project she has created for you.

I made a circular card today, since I hadn't done one in a long time. And I used a color combo that I rarely use, contrasting yellow and purple colors. The stamps and dies are all by Simon Says Stamp.

I traced a rough circle with a plate and then heat embossed the Simon Says Stamp Halftone Circle with Cream Embossing powder.

Cut out and ink with purple Distress Inks. Add a little Distress Oxide Ink.

The larger crocus come from the Thoughtful Flowers set. It is one of the sets that I designed, which is partly why I wanted to use it on a card to my Mom. It has also been made into a woodblock stamp called the Thoughtful Flower. The woodblock is a little smaller, as you can see here, making them perfect to combine.

Smear Distress Ink on a non-stick craft sheet and mist with water. Pick up with a paint brush and watercolor the flowers. I aimed for a lose look.

Add some details with a colored pencil and a white gel pen.

Die cut the You Shine die from the Born To Sparkle release from heavystock and purple glittery paper.

The halftone background with the resist effect creates a cool graduated look. There is also a Halftone Background stamp.

Ink the back piece of the sentiment yellow, then add the plain letters back again. Glue the purple glitter word on top.

The stamped sentiments come from the Bouquet For Mom set.

I like having the flower in two sizes, but you could also use two of the same size.

  1. Hello Anna Karin, Hope your little fellow is feeling better soon.
Your card for your Mom is so beautiful! I love the dainty little crocuses and such a sweet touch on this card since you designed the stamp. Lovely!
I don't often head in the direction of the opposites on the colour wheel but you have done it in a gorgeous way.
Thank you so much for sharing this pretty design and Happy Mother's Day! :)
