Robin Tag Tutorial

Hello and welcome to my blog! It is Monday and we woke up to misty weather today.

Our theme is 'Stitch It' this week at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog. I hope you will join us! Since it is the first Monday of a new month the team is showcasing products by a specific designer/company and this week it is AALL & Create. You don't have to use their projects to join, but it is always fun if you do. You can see their wide range of stamps and stencils here. We also have a new guest designer and during October Lori E Kennedy aka cr8tive_lori on Instagram will be joining us. Don't miss seeing her beautiful project.

I made a tag with warm shades of orange, red and brown inspired by the little robin bird. The AALL & Create stamp set that I used is called Robin & Nuthatch and is designed by Tracy Evans. The bird is so cute and looks all fuzzy and gives the look of faux-stitching.

Stamp the bird on a heavystock tag with Jet Black Archival Ink.

Watercolor the bird with Tim Holtz Distress Watercolor Pencils. I picked the pigment up from the pencils with a paint brush.

Ink the tag with Distress Inks.

Ink with Frayed Burlap and Vintage Photo through Tim's Focus stencil.

Stamp the background repeatedly with Fly Free from Robin & Nuthatch, without always inking in between. Stamp here and there with Simon Says Stamp Halftone Background using Fired Brick Distress Oxide Ink.

It is very easy to add splatters with the watercolor pencils. Dip in water and flick a paint brush against the pencil.

Die cut acorns with Simon Says Stamp Acorn Trio and feathers with Tim Holtz Sizzix Feathery. The rose hips were die cut with Tim's Funky Foliage.

Color the small pieces with the watercolor pencils.

Assemble the rose hips and add Glossy Accents.

Smear Distress Inks on a non-stick craft sheet, mist with water and press the feathers into the ink. Dry and repeat until you are happy with the look. I finished with a little Distress Oxide ink.

When I looked at rose hips on my walk this morning, I noticed that many of them are actually the other way around than these, with the rounder part outwards. But if they were layered like that, they didn't cover up the green underneath.

Stamp robin with Potting Soil ink and cut out.

The little bird is so cute. I used a bird book to try to get the colors right. The feet were restamped after I glued down the feathers.

The acorns were shaped with Tim Holtz Shaping kit and adhered with Simon Says Stamp Pawsitively Foam Tape. I also added some sequins.

The feathers were splattered with a brown watercolor crayon.
