Hello all! The sun is shining and it is a glorious autumn day here. I hardly ever leave home without my camera this time of the year since there is almost always something beautiful to capture.
At the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog we have a It's a Dog's Life theme this week. Don't miss the stunning project by our October guest designer Wanda Hentges.
I made a card featuring a very sweet dog, stamped with the Sitting Dog Eclectic stamp by Darkroom Door. I was in the mood for lots of layers and lots of textures and used a whole bunch of various surfaces in the background, and two 3-D embossing folders by Sizzix. The card is inspired by the colors and textures of fall.
The sweet dog was inked with Ground Espresso, misted with water and stamped on watercolor paper. It's a little tricky getting the right amount of water and don't be discouraged if your first impression isn't what you are looking for. Too much water and you lose the details of the face, and with too little water, there won't be a watercolor effect. The impression will always look better once it is dry, so give it time. Behind the dog there is a piece of lace trim, Halloween kraft paper, a script paper from Tim's Halloween Paper Stash and some cheese cloth.
The sentiments come from the Clippings Stickers set.
All the layers might be a little hard to spot, because some can only be glanced. The bottom layer is a piece of Halloween kraft paper stash by Tim Holtz, inked and distressed. Second, you see some burlap. The woodgrain paper was in my scrap box and I inked it with yellow and brown Distress Inks. A piece of gold metallic kraft cardstock was embossed in the Leaves 3-D embossing folder. I sanded it and inked it with Ground Espresso. The ink will stick to the sanded areas. Circles were die cut with the Circle Loops die.
Do you see the star peeking out on the woodgrain paper? I had previously tried to die cut the Stacked Stars die from that paper, but used the wrong sandwich by mistake and it didn't cut through. Don't toss away those kinds of pieces, since they might find a great home on another project.
The yellow kraft paper was embossed in the Woven 3-D embossing folder, sanded, and inked. I also used a piece of natural sticky-back canvas.
The card has a nice and heavy feel to it because of all the layers. It is also a great way to use scrap papers.
I hope you will join us this week in our It's a Dog's Life challenge. As always, you have a chance to win a $50 gift voucher to do some fun shopping at Simon Says Stamp. You have until Monday 8am Ohio time. 1pm UK time, 2 pm CET to join in.
