Hello stampers! I hope you are having a good weekend. We are continuing with your Fall Splendour challenge at Craft a Scene.

 

I made a little fall scene in my art journal for this week. The background was done by inking up a large acrylic block with Distress Inks, misting with water and pressing the block on the page. I like the way the sky turned out, with clouds forming. The trees were stamped with Potting Soil ink.

 

For the leaves, I used a Wendy Vecchi stencil and her Gold Embossing Paste. The paste is a lovely shiny gold, a little hard to capture on a photo.

 

The foreground grasses were stamped with Fired Brick Distress Ink and Fern Green Archival Ink. I also added some stencilled leaves under the trees. 

The birds in the sky were stamped with Salty Ocean, misting the stamp with water after inking.

Hello everyone! I am very happy to be a contributor to May Flaum's new class, Supplies On Hand. Don't miss this great class on how to get the most out of your supplies.

Stamping on Black Cardstock Tutorial

Hello all! STAMPtember continues at Simon Says Stamp, and today I am sharing a stamping technique tutorial on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog.

 

 

This week we have a rock the techniques stamping challenge, and I am sure you already know that I love stamps.

 

I recently got Ranger's new black cardstock and since I don't often stamp on black cardstock I challenged myself to do some glimmery and shimmery stamping on black cardstock. I am sharing three different techniques in the tutorial.

Autumn Artist Trading Block Tutorial

Hello and welcome! I have a tutorial to share today for the September Art With Heart challenge over at Eileen Hull. I hope you are following Eileen on her two month Papertrail road trip.

 

I made an Autumn Artist Trading Block, using blueprint stamps by Tim Holtz. You could work directly on the mat board, but for this block, I wanted distressed edges, so I used watercolour paper on top of the mat board.

 

Start by die cutting the largest block on the 3-D Blocks/Cubes die (the die contains three block sizes) from cream mat board. The die both cuts and scores the material. Die cut it also from watercolour paper and cut the squares apart from each other with a craft knife.

Stamp four blueprint leaves using Archival Jet Black ink. It is important to use a waterproof ink.

Smear Distress Inks on your craft sheet and mist with Biscotti Perfect Pearls. Pick up with a paint brush and colour the squares. I also added a fifth square, for the top of the block.

When dry, splatter with some Walnut Stain ink. Smear on your craft sheet, mist with water, pick up with a paint brush and tap the paint brush. This is a favourite technique of mine for adding quick texture, perfect for autumn.

Stamp the squares with a script stamp and Frayed Burlap ink.

Distress all the edges with a Tim Holtz distresser tool. Love this look on watercolour paper. Stitch around the squares with a sewing machine.

Adhere the squares to the block, taking care with the placement of the bottom two (it is easy to place them the wrong way around). Use a strong adhesive, such as Ranger's Wonder Tape to assemble the block.

Here you can see the distressed edges of the block.

The effect of the Perfect Pearls is hard to photograph, it gives a great glimmer to the leaves. You can maybe see it a bit better here.

I love these leaf stamps. Leaves work real well as blueprints.

 

The distressed edges and the stitching gives the block a nice feeling, you want to reach out and touch it.

 

My car is parked under an Oak tree and we get a lot of acorns. I wanted to pick some and place on top of the block, but it isn't season for them here now.

Love this quote, so much that I am actually using it for a second project right now.

Three Languages Layout

Hello all! I hope you are having a good weekend! There is a new CSI:Color, Stories, Inspiration challenge. Here's the case file:

My layout:

One of the Curious as a Cat inspiration link had the topic 'how many languages do you speak'. Instead of writing about myself, I did a layout about my son's language development. People sometimes say that it must be confusing to him to grow up with three languages around him, but for Anton it is normal. As he gets older, he has started to be proud of being able to say the same thing three times in different languages, such as 'I love you'. He doesn't speak all three equally well yet, having his own sweet version of English. From the evidence I used: clouds, stripes and triangles. I flipped the sketch around because it worked better with my photos that way.

The background is watercolour paper. Texture paste was applied through two different Tim Holtz stencils with a palette knife. When it was dry, I applied Distress Paint on my craft sheet, misted with water and pressed the paper into the paint. After the paint dried, an alphabet stamp was stamped here and there and I dry-brushed some white paint on the letters.

The title was die cut from mat board, stamped with a definition stamp and inked yellow around the edges.

The clouds/talk bubbles were die cut from mat board, stamped and coated with Glossy Accents. I used Inktense pencils to colour the stamped image.

And of course a few Chit Chat stickers, I keep reaching for them. The journaling is typed on a piece of paper tucked behind the layout because I wrote quite a bit.

Dragonfly Pond Tag Tutorial

Hello everyone! Have you seen that there is a new Sizzix Challenge? The DT members will share inspiration, and today it is my turn.

 

I made a transparent tag with dragonfly ovals embossed in a Vintaj folder. The acetate for the background was embossed and I used kraft-core paper to die cut the leaves and swirls.
