Rainbow Art Journal Page

Hello friends! The sun is shining and I have a joyful art journal page to share today, but you can also easily turn it into a card.

I used the Simon Says Stamp Rainbow Is My Favorite Color June Card Kit to make this. If the kit is sold out, you can get the individual products separately. I also used some dies and stamps that aren't included in the kit. I like creating hopefully and happy pages in my art journals and this kit was perfect for that. Rainbows also always make me think of South Africa, for two reasons. I saw many fantastic rainbows when living there and the rainbow has also frequently been used as a symbol of the transition in the country.

I started out by creating a background with Distress Inks, working on a cotton-rag watercolor page in my Dina Wakley Media Journal. Smear Distress Ink in lines on a non-stick craft sheet, mist with water and press the page into the ink.

When dry, use the larger half-rainbow stamps in the Rainbow Is My Favorite Color set, ink and mist with water before stamping.

Next, I used the versatile Build A Rainbow stencil included in the kit. Ink clouds with two shades of blue Distress Ink. This is very easy and gives such a great effect. I used the Mini Domed Ink Blending Foam.

I tore a piece of printer paper and used as a mask to add some ink to the grass area. To create textured grass, I splattered two shades of Scribble Sticks on the grass, leaving the mask in place. Dip the sticks in water and flick a paint brush against them.

There is a really cool Holographic Rainbow paper included in the June kit and I used different sections of that one sheet for all the die cut words.

From a different angle the You Shine sentiment looks like this, it really does shine.

The Best was die cut from a pink/purple section of the Holographic Rainbow paper.

I love adding various types of clouds to my backgrounds and with the Build A Rainbow stencil you can make both these types of cloud banks and single clouds. I stamped a bunch of sentiments on the background.

Don't worry if the distance between the lines isn't perfect. You can also place them right next to each other and let the colors blend. I will try that next time.

Celebrate was die cut from a green section of the holographic paper. The sentiment comes from Laugh In Flowers.
