Hi everyone! I hope you had a good weekend! I have a poppy artist trading card to share with you with a fun resist technique using colored pencils and Distress Ink.
We have a Beautiful Blooms theme at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog this week. I hope you will join us! And don't miss the beuatiful project that our June guest designer Nikki Acton created for you.

Our neighbours have such pretty poppies growing in their garden and I was inspired to create an Artist Trading Card featuring poppies on a bright green background.
Start by cutting an ATC from watercolor paper (2.5 x 3.5 in) and round the corners. Stamp three poppies from Simon Says Stamp Thoughtful Flowers with Antique Linen ink.
Color the flowers with colored pencils. I used Faber-Castell Polychromos pencils, but other colored pencils should work too - note that watercolor pencils will not work for this technique. Blend the colors with a white pencil. Also add a thin outline around the flowers and along one side of the stems with the white pencils, as well as some white pencils strands of grass.
Next, smear Distress Inks on a non-stick craft sheet, mist with water and press the card into the ink. The colored pencil will resist the ink. I could have been a bit more heavy-handed with the white pen outlines since they would have been more visible then.
Let the first layer dry and continue adding ink, to create texture and layers. I finished with a little Distress Oxide ink.
When dry, add highlights with a white gel pen and some marks with a black pen. If you want to, you can splatter some Scribble Sticks on the background too.
I took a too thick black pen by mistake, so some of my lines are a bit thick to my liking, but I thought they still fit with the somewhat messy look that I was aiming for. You can see that there is some green on the flower, which is where there were gaps in the pencil marks.
I never grow tired of the look of Distress Ink and Distress Oxide ink in layers.
The sentiment also comes from the Thoughtful Flowers set and was stamped on a small piece of scrap paper, which had been inked with Antique Linen.
I hope you will join us this week in our Beautiful Blooms challenge. You have a chance to win a $25 gift voucher to do some fun shopping at Simon Says Stamp. You have until Monday 8am Ohio time. 1pm UK time, 2 pm CET to join in.
