Hello friends! I hope you are well. Today I have a quick watercolor tutorial to share with you. I turned mine into an art journal page, but you can also make a card.
I used the new Follow the Rainbows stamp set by Simon Says Stamp. It was a part of the April card kit, which is now sold out, but you can still buy the stamp set separately. It is a wonderful stamp set, especially in these times. My art journal is a great place in which to try to handle and deal with the present situation and this was one of those pages. It was done in Dina Wakley's White Journal, which is 6x6 in, so you can very easily turn the design into a card instead.
Stamp the woman with the umbrella on a page in the art journal, using a waterproof ink. The cotton-rag pages in the white journal are very textured, which makes it a little hard to get a good stamped impression, which you can see here. If you use a watercolor paper with less texture, you can easily get a perfectly stamped image. In this case, however, I thought the imperfect stamping fit with the page.
Mix watercolor paint and paint the scene, starting with the umbrella. I pressed a paper towel here and there on the umbrella to create lighter areas. The dress was painted with stronger colors, so that it would stand out. I also gave her some ground to stand on. Later, I painted it a little larger. If you don't have watercolor paint, you can use Distress Ink to color the scene, by smearing it on a craft sheet, misting with water and picking up with a paint brush.
Here you can see that I added a second layer to the ground area.
The stamp set includes additional droplets and lines and I stamped them here and there to make the scene even rainier. Splatter blue paint on the page. After I had splattered the blue paint, I wanted a little yellow too, to symbolise hope.
Here you can see the textured areas created with the paper towel better. I actually like how the imperfect stamping gives a worn look to the umbrella.
The dress was painted with a strong yellow, dropping in orange. I filled in some of the stamped lines with a black pen.
The sentiments also comes from the Follow the Rainbow set. I like the shaded areas in the letters.
Remember to always date your art journal pages. I also scribbled a border around the page.
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my blog today!
