Autumn Watercolor Flowers

Hello friends! Today I have a card to share that I made with the Simon Says Stamp October Card Kit. The October kit is beautiful, with gorgeous neutral/autumn shades, a very pretty stamp set, and it even includes a pair of Tim Holtz mini scissors. Perfect for me, since I tend to look for mine as they keep getting lost among papers.

This morning we had a visit by an elk in the garden, it was standing right outside the window.

The pretty flowers were calling out for some watercoloring, and I decided to stamp them in black, for a sketchbook look. I colored them loosely with watercolors, but you can use Distress Ink instead. For this project, I used an autumn palette, with different colors this can be a card for any season.

Here is the stamp set and some of the products from the October Card Kit that I used. The Thankful Flowers set is so pretty with all the flowers, and I really like the mix of larger and smaller sentiments.

Start by stamping the larger flower group and one of the small flowers on a square piece of watercolor paper.

Mix up some watercolor paint. You need a yellow, an orange, a brown and two shades of green. Paint the flowers. Drop in darker shades before the lighter ones dry, and watch the magic as they blend. I pulled out color from the edges, by painting with water and just barely touching the still wet paint.

For a warmer look, I decided to paint the entire background with a soft yellow.

Splatter a little bit of brown paint on the background.

Mix up a brownish grey and paint shadows.

Draw a border around the edges and distress the edges. Stamp the background repeatedly with one of the small sentiment stamps from the set.

Add highlights with a white gel pen, and add some marks with a black fine line marker, to increase the sketch look.

Here's a close up on the white and black line work that I added. I love using a white gel pen to add highlights to a project.

Small sentiment stamps are perfect to use as background elements. Stamp until there is no more ink on the stamp.

I love the gorgeous gold letters that came in the kit.

And the last flower in the upper corner. The panel was mounted on the dark brown cardstock from the kit and then on gold paper.
