Hello friends! I hope you are well and had a good weekend! We had a birthday party for Anton which was a big success and lots of fun.
This week at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog we have a Grunge It Up challenge. Lots of fun! Don't miss the stunning project by our February guest designer Stacy Hutchinson.
I made a really grungy tag this week, with lots of layers and techniques. There is quite a bit of embossing powders, as you can see, and I also used Tim Holtz's Ultimate Grunge set a lot. It is an older set of his and it is one of my favorite and most used stamp sets. The tag also has left-over bits and pieces that I found on my desk.
I started by smearing Distress Paints on a craft sheet and misting them with water. Dip and press the tag into the paint. I colored more than one tag, and this is the second one, the one I used on the project has somewhat darker colors.
Heat emboss various designs from Ultimate Grunge on the tag using Gunmetal and Verdigris powders. Stamp the number stamp repeatedly with black ink. I also stamped the grid stamp with Broken China Distress Oxide, which gives a nice extra layer to the tag. The edges were distressed and inked black and finally I applied some glue stick to the tag and pressed a gold foil sheet on top. Rub and remove the sheet.
The little tag is a grey tag from the Ranger Letter It Ivory & Grey Assorted Tags. I embossed the grid stamp with Gunmetal, inked the tag with Broken China Distress Oxide and then embossed it with several layers of clear powder. In the final layer, I sprinkled in some Verdigris powder. Do NOT touch the melted powder until it is completely cool, since it is very hot. You can also use UTEE, but I used ordinary clear powder.
Die cut gears from grungeboard and paint with Cracked Pistachio, Mermaid Lagoon and a little Ground Espresso. When dry, stamp with the Checkered stamp and emboss with Rose Gold powder.
The hearts were die cut from dark blue wool felt using the SSS Clipping Hearts die.
I also used a SSS Cottage Stems die cut and inked that I found on my desk. The little butterfly was die cut from packaging and painted with Cracked Pistachio.
I had some flowers left-over from my Wildflower Mason Jar tutorial and glued them to the small tag. Under the tag there is a small piece of cheese cloth.
Here's a better look at all the layers of embossing powders, ink and stamping on the small tag.
Another look at the layers of embossing powders.
The sentiments come from the SSS You Matter background stamp. I really like this stamp and it works great both as a background and for individual sentiments.
Here's a close up of the details and textures created by the embossing and stamping.
I also found a butterfly on my desk, which was stamped on Wendy Vecchi's Clearly for Art Modeling Film and colored with alcohol inks.
The Distress Oxide stamping shows really well on top of all the layers. All the shiny bits are gold foil.
