Totally Embossed Tag Tutorial

Hello friends! It is Monday again and I hope you had a good weekend. We had a fun soccer tournament which was a big success. Anton also managed to win five raffle prizes, so he was really pleased.

STAMPtember continues at Simon Says Stamp, with tons of inspiration and lots of new products, such as the big collection for STAMPtember®, with stamps, dies, stencils, envelopes, cardstock and sequins.

This week at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog we have a Heavy Metal theme. Lots of options for this theme - metallic embellishments, faux metal looks, metallic embossing powder and more. Or music.

I had such fun making this tag, which started out with not much of a plan, just some stamps, inks and embossing powders. Actually, a lot of embossing powder. It's a Halloween tag, but the background technique works for any theme. I also used metallic embellishments, metallic paint and metallic alcohol ink on the tag.

NOTE: As always, when working with embossing powder and heat tools, you need to be very careful not to burn yourself. Never ever touch the melted powder. Always make sure that you wait until it has cooled down completely.

Start by stamping three Ravens with Black Tie pigment ink. Emboss with Liquid Platinum.

Stamp a script stamp here and there with embossing ink and sprinkle Verdigris powder on top. Emboss. This great script stamp comes from the Tim Holtz Apothecary set.

Ink the whole tag with Distress Ink and cover completely with embossing powder. Melt with a heat tool. Be careful!

Ink the whole tag with Ground Espresso. The ink will get into some areas not embossed in the previous step and increase texture. Emboss the entire tag again with clear powder. If you want to, you can emboss the tag one additional time with clear powder, using embossing ink, such as Ranger's Emboss It Dabber in between.

When the powder is completely cool, stamp the splatter stamp from the Haunted House set here and there with embossing ink. Sprinkle gold powder on top. The powder will stick in some non-stamped areas too, just leave it as it is since it adds to the effect. Melt the powder carefully.

Apply ink with an Emboss It dabber at the bottom of the tag and sprinkle with gold powder. Melt and then repeat with Liquid Platinum powder.

I wish you could see the effect of all the layers of stamping, ink and embossing powder in real life. It is really pretty cool and adds such depth to the tag. You might see it a little better here, with the Platinum shimmer of the birds showing through well.

The verdigris text adds a subtle text layer and repeats the turquoise color of the ink.

The brown ink almost gives a fine crackle effect in some areas. I also added a little bit of black paint around the edges of the tag.

There are a bunch of other metallic elements on the tag. These bones were colored with Silver Mixative Alcohol ink and distressed with a tiny bit of gold metallic paint.

The word band was distressed with black and gold paint. I dropped Gold Mixative onto the black Heirloom Roses.

The star was coloured with gold and silver mixative, as well as some black paint.

I also used Typed Tokens distressed with the gold and black paints.

Here's another look of the shine of the last layer in the embossed background, the gold.
