Sizzix & Vintaj Bezel Jewelry Blog Hop

Hello and welcome to my tutorial for the Sizzix & Vintaj Bezel Jewelry Blog Hop! Don't miss all the inspiration during this great week long hop and there is also a great prize to be won. There will be a new project every day, this is day two. You can read more here.

 

I had such fun with these products and made three bezel pendants. It is easy and quick and a great gift, maybe for Christmas. Two of them were made with Ranger's Metal-Pressions sheets, and the one in the middle with one of my favourite papers from Tim Holtz. If you rather want to make embellishments for cards or scrapbooking pages, the techniques will work perfectly for that too.

 

These are some of the products that I used: Vintaj bezels, Sizzix/Vintaj Round Square and Eclectic Framelits dies which are designed to die cut shapes that fit the bezels perfectly (such a great idea!), Sizzix/Vintaj Deco Emboss folders, Ranger/Vintaj Patina Inks and Metal-pressions sheets. Let's start.

After you picked which bezel to use, locate the coordinating die and die cut from copper Metal-pressions. These dies are much easier to use together with the Magnetic Platform. Cutting Sandwich: magnetic platform, cutting pad, material to be die cut, die and second cutting pad.

Emboss in the Mod Trees Deco Emboss folder. You place the metal inside the folder and close the folder, also remember to check which side should face down.

Place two dots of Patina Ink on your craft sheet and paint the piece with a paint brush. Work quickly because the inks dry real fast. Wipe off most of the ink from the embossed areas and use a Vintaj Reliefing Block for the rest.

I made four tree panels using different inks. The first one was embossed in the Moonlit Night folder. I liked all of them, but ended up picking the one to the right. I'll use the others on a card.

The little owl was made in the same way, only using Silver Metal-Pressions and different Patina Inks.

Peal of the back paper from the metal pieces, they are self-adhesive, and carefully position in the bezels. As you can see, it is a perfect fit, something that would be tricky to do if you had to hand cut these pieces. If you want to, you can leave the pendants like this, maybe adding a protective layer of Ranger/Vintaj Glaze.

For the little bird, I die cut the oval, making sure to position it right where I wanted it. The smallest images on the Tim Holtz paper pads are perfect for this.

Here you see the two pieces and the die.

To prevent the UTEE from seeping into the paper, which makes the paper look a little transparent, I sealed it with a few coats of matte multi medium, on both sides. Let dry in between coats.

I decided to coat my pieces with clear Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel (UTEE). This gives a great look to them, almost like vintage glass. A note of caution: be extremely careful when working with UTEE and the melting pot, because the UTEE gets very very hot. Never touch the UTEE.

 

Place a craft sheet into the melting pot, on the UTEE setting. Place the bezel on the craft sheet and carefully spoon small piles of UTEE into the bezel, until you have filled the whole bezel. Carefully lift the craft sheet out of the pot. The bezel and the UTEE will be very hot, leave to cool down completely before touching it.

I did the same thing with the owl.

For the bird, we will use the UTEE as an adhesive. Place the bezel in the pot and add a little bit of UTEE to it. When the UTEE has melted carefully place the bird oval into the UTEE, using a pair of tweezers. Again, be very careful not to touch the UTEE, bezel or the pot itself.

Continue adding UTEE to the top as explained before.

The little owl is so cute and if you make two, it would be a great pair of earrings.

I love trees, so it is no surprise that I made a tree pendant for myself. 

 

I used a Tim Holtz ball chain and jump ring to turn my bezels into necklaces. You could also add beads and charms to make a more complicated piece.

 

You could also use stamped images to make pendants.

It is such fun to make pendants that will fit the recipient perfectly.

Fall Leaf Card

Hi everyone! I hope you had a good weekend! We did a lot of nice things this weekend. It is October and this week at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge blog we are 'Falling in love with...fall'

 

I love the vibrant colours of fall and they look so great together. This week I made a card using some new Simon Says Stamp Exclusive stamps and dies. The frame dies used for the various background pieces were die cut with the great Frames set. The outer scalloped frame is embossed with Verdigris powder. I love the thin white frame, this die cut set is really great value. 

 

The leaves were stamped with Wendy Vecchi's Archival Inks on Ranger's Specialty Stamping paper. The Leaves & Scribbles set includes a solid leaf of each kind, as well as a scribbled one, and is perfect for stamp layering. I first stamped them with red, yellow, orange and green inks and then overstamped with the scribbled leaves, using Jet Black ink. This gives a great texture to the leaves. Since the stamps are clear, they are easy to line up. The sentiment comes from the This is the Life set.

Here you can see the texture of the leaves a little better. If you don't want to cut them all out, there is a coordinating set of dies.

For the background, I gold embossed the Leaf Background stamp on Specialty Stamping Paper. I wanted some more shine and misted with Copper Perfect Pearls.

Hello stampers! It's a new month and a new theme at Craft a Scene, By the Silver Moon. I hope you'll be able to join us.

 

I did a black and white scene this week, always a favourite of mine and it works real well with night time scenes. All the stamping was done with Ranger Archival Ink Jet Black. I coloured the scene with grey and black dye inks, using a Colorbox Stylus Tool. There is also some white pigment ink here and there, especially around the moon and in the grassy area. Highlights were added with a white gel pen. The stamps are all from Stampscapes.

Spooky Mixed Media Canvas Tutorial

Hello all! I have a fun mixed media tutorial to share with you today, for the Tim Holtz Media Team. It involves die cutting, stamping, Distress Paints and various media. 

 

I made a Halloween canvas board (6 x8) for my son's room, but you can really use these techniques for any type of theme. I did a seaside canvas earlier this year, with some of the same techniques, for example, making little houses with the Matchbox die. I love using my dies in ways that they were not originally intended for.

 

Coat the canvas board with gesso, this gives a better surface for the other mediums to adhere to. 

 

I wanted a scary sky and thought Wendy Vecchi's Crackled Texture Paste would do the trick. Smear a layer where the sky will be with a palette knife, varying thicker and thinner applications. The thicker the paste, the larger the cracks will be. 

Leave the paste dry and cracks will appear. For the ground, apply a thick layer of Ranger's Texture Paste. Leave to dry.

Die cut a mask for the moon using the middle Sized Circles die. It works great if you use Tim Holtz Mask Sheets, but I had run out.

 

Paint the background with Distress Paint, adding a bit of water to the paint. Remember to always shake the bottles first. Start with Wild Honey, then continue with Iced Spruce, Chipped Sapphire and Black Soot. For the ground, I also used some Dusty Concord. Leave to dry.

 

Dry brush Black Soot here and there for a grungy effect. Water down some Brushed Pewter paint and apply over the crackled background, with thicker applications along the edges and in the corners. It is hard to see on the photo, but it adds a real great metallic effect. Paint the moon with very watery Wild Honey, to tone down the white.

Continuing with the little house, die cut one outer box part using the Matchbox die, from thin chipboard. I used the cover of one of my Tim Holtz paper stashes.

Die cut a second piece to make the roof. Cut it in half, and fold in the middle, as shown on the piece to the right.

 

Apply texture paste to the roof through the Burlap stencil, masking the front part of the roof with masking tape. 

Emboss the house in the woodgrain folder for texture.

Paint the house with Frayed Burlap and the roof with Rusty Hinge. If you use chipboard, you might want to paint them with white paint or gesso first.

 

Measure the midpoint on both sides of the house panels and cut with a craft knife. It is easier to do this step before painting, I just forgot.

 

Add some darker brown and black to the house and the roof. Cut a window with a craft knife.

 

To give the house a little bit more stability, die cut the inner part of the Matchbox from cardstock, and cut it off so that it fits the house. I placed two pieces of foam (from Sizzix Texture Fade packaging) inside the house).

When I was busy assembling the house, Anton came into the room and stated that he had to be inside the house. I moved the one foam square down and glued a cut out photo of him in the house. It is a little out of proportion, but since this is Halloween, that didn't matter much.

 

Add a small piece of die cut web to the house and a piece of acetate as a window. Apply Glossy Accents to the roof and sprinkle with Seedless Preserves Distress Glitter.

I wanted to use the new Hanging Lantern die, but it was too large for the canvas. The simple solution is to use shrink plastic. I also die cut an Apothecary Bottle from the plastic. 

Shrink according to the instructions on the packaging.

 

Paint on the back with Distress paint.

Coat with Glossy Accents and sprinkle with a little Rock Candy Distress Glitter. Love this little lantern.

 

Die cut a branch tree and the top of another one from grungeboard. Paint with Walnut Stain and when dry, dry-brush with Black Soot.

Stamp two images and a sentiment on tissue paper with Archival Ink. Plan the placement of everything.

Glue the tissue paper down by first applying a layer of multi medium gloss to the background. Place the tissue paper into the medium, and add another layer on top. The paper basically disappears and you have a perfect stamped impression on an uneven background. I also stamped the canvas here and there with a text and web stamp.

The silver makes for a nice effect. I stamped the branches with the spider web stamp.

I like the look of the imperfect stamping on the crackled background.

The moon looks nice with the bats and the tree branches in front of it.

The house is pretty dimensional on the canvas.
