Hello all! In the very last minute, here is my version of Tim Holtz 12 tags of 2014 September.

Instead of using the face of the woman that Tim used, which I stamped on a canvas posted yesterday, I decided to make an autumn tag. I used the Harlequin stencil for the alcohol ink background, but you hardly see it through the stamping and rub-ons.

The leaves were die cut with the Autumn Gatherings die and stamped with an alphabet background stamp. I liked the faded effect of the technique.

 

The gold mixative gives a great shine to the leaves.

It is always fun to use rubs, all these small words are favourites of mine.

Art Mini Canvas

Hello stampers! STAMPtember is almost over at Simon Says Stamp, I hope you have enjoyed it. For our challenge this week at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge we are adding stamping as a finishing touch to projects. 

 

My project for this week:

I made a little mini canvas (4 x 4 in) using stamps, ink, paint and a stencil. Stamping works for any project, big or small and just a little bit of stamping, such as the cracks here can add a great finishing touch to a project. 

 

I started by coating the canvas with gesso and when dry painted it with Antique Linen. I added some stencilling using Frayed Burlap and just a little bit of Broken China. For this project, I wanted to try doing all the stamping on a single piece of tissue paper, rather than to stamp the images on separate pieces and piece them together on the background. You have to use a permanent ink for this technique, I used Jet Black Archival Ink.

 

Paint a thin layer of glossy multi medium on the canvas and carefully place the tissue on top. Don't worry if it wrinkles a little. Paint another layer of multi medium on top of the tissue paper.

 

I painted the stamped images lightly with Distress Paint and also added some splatters with the Specks stencil. The edges were embossed with Ranger's Platinum Embossing Powder, using the Emboss-It Dabber to apply embossing ink first.

 

For her hair, I used Sprocket Gears and Mini Gears, all were altered with Distress Paint. Her face was also lightly painted with Distress Paint, especially Tattered Rose. 

 

A is for 'Art' and also the first letter of my name. I smeared Ranger's Embossing Paste through a stencil and painted it when dry.

 

I like the way the layers look with the paint, stencilling stamped tissue paper and then more paint.  

I also painted and added some embossing powder to the edges, for a finished look.

Dinosaur layout

Hi and welcome! I hope your weekend had a good start. There is a new CSI:Color, Stories, Inspiration challenge up. Here's the case file:

 

 

My layout:

 

I made a layout about a very cool dinosaur exhibit we went to recently. An amazing place for a little boy interested in dinosaurs, even though some of them that moved around and made noise were a little scary. From the evidence I used: Glossy Accents, leaves, music paper and layers. The testimony is inspired by the something strange theme and I was going to tuck it in between the layers but only remembered about that once I had adhered everything together. For the background, I used the back of one of the papers in Tim Holtz Destinations Paper Stash, which looks a little like the skin of a dinosaur. Behind the photo there are layers of three manila papers which were coloured with Distress Ink and stamped with three background stamps. The purple paper is inked Motif Resist cardstock and I also used some vellum ephemera pieces.

The background was stamped with a grid stamp and with two sentiment stamps. I like the way you can peek the other layers through the vellum pieces. The title letters were die cut from white mat board with the Block Talk Lowercase die, inked with Dusty Concord, sanded and coated with Glossy Accents.

 

A second sentiment, partly hiding behind leaves die cut from kraft-core cardstock.

I dyed cheese cloth with Distress Inks and added it in between the layers. There is also a piece of Linen Ribbon (I love linen ribbon) and more vellum layers.

Lucky Dog Accordion Card

Hello everyone! Today I have a quick post to share of a Sizzix mini accordion card, perfect for someone who likes dogs.

 

I used the pretty Graphic 45 Raining Cats & Dogs Collection, as well as the new Sizzix Mini Heart Album by Jillibean Soup. The vintage dog stickers are so cute, and were given central stage on this card. The base was die cut from patterned paper and since these papers are double-sided they were perfect for the card. There is a flap that folds down behind the die cut shapes (the heart, label and butterfly), so the paper you see through the die cut openings is the back of the text paper. This is an XL die so you need the extended cutting pads.

 

I glued the positive heart shape on top of the negative die cut and added some dimension by folding the heart in the middle. I also added some word stickers and printed chipboard shapes.

The 'My Dog' sticker was placed on top of a chipboard button.

 

The card is only 2 in high and it is fun to work in this small format now and then.

On the front, I added the die cut label from the inside, another chipboard shape and a sentiment.

Sunshine Card

It is a happy sunshine card made with new Sizzix dies and embossing folder by KI Memories, and papers by Graphic 45. Just some dry embossing, quick patterned paper die cuts and the card is done.

Enough Art Journaling Tutorial

Hello everyone! A new week and a new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. STAMPtember is continuing at Simon Says Stamp, and this week we have a stamps and stencils theme. Lots of possibilities for this one, and you don't have to use both.

 

My project for this week: 

 

I made an art journal page using mainly products by Dina Wakley, with a positive message, since I needed some encouragement the day I was making this. The strong pink is not a colour I often use, and it was fun doing a different colour combo from normally. I took a few step photos.

 

Working in my Small Creative Journal, I started by covering the background with gesso, pressing the lid of a Distress Paint bottle into the gesso to give it more texture. Leave to dry. Add a heart, half circle and two birds with stencils and Ranger's Texture Paste. When the paste was dry I added two hearts and a woman, who had been stamped on tissue paper, since it is easier to apply stamps on a textured background like this using the tissue paper technique. Paint a layer of gloss multi medium on the background, place the tissue paper on top and paint another layer on the tissue paper.

 

I started laying down layers of paint, removing some of the paint by scrubbing through the Canvas stencil with a moist cloth. Most of the paint was watered down slightly. I used: Lapis, Magenta, Lime, Umber and White, and a mixture creating a soft grey.  

Place the stencil back over the paste heart and stamp through it. I also added some stencilling to the heart and outlined it with the Fude pen. A sentiment was stamped repeatedly here and there and I cut out some circles and strips from old dictionary paper. The page was also splattered with black paint.

I like stamping text using first to third generation stamping.

The woman was given more colour and I extended her body a little with a Fude pen. The same pen was used to add back some of the lines that I had painted over.

The sentiment was stencilled with the Lapis paint. Love this shade of vibrant blue. Here you can also better see the circles in the gesso.

 

The birds and hearts were given a shadow to make them look more dimensional.

 

The two stamped hearts were painted, stencilled, and splattered. 

This half circle is such a great shape and very useful. It was painted blue and outlined with the pen.
