Crocus Card Tutorial

Hello crafters! Spring is in full bloom and one of my favorite spring flower is the crocus. Today, I am sharing a card with a row of crocus flowers in different colors.

I used photos I took last spring as inspiration for the colors. My favorite crocus color is the white one with purple lines. It is so delicate. The yellow ones give a nice contrast to the purple. For the background, I made a soft, textured background with resist stamping.

Die cut Simon Says Stamp Fresh Crocus Stem.

Start by die cutting the petals of the Simon Says Stamp Fresh Crocus Duo from watercolor paper.

Paint with watercolors.

Test shades of watercolor paint on scrap paper first and then paint the flowers. Leave some white showing for highlights.

Die cut leaves.

Paint watercolor paper with three shades of green and when dry, die cut the leaves and stems.

Shape the flowers.

Use Tim Holtz Shaping Kit to add shape to the flowers. Make one concave and one convex shape for each flower.

Assemble the paper crocus flowers.

Shape the leaves too and assemble the crocus flowers.

White emboss friendship text.

White emboss Simon Says Stamp Friendship Background on watercolor paper.

Ink with Distress Ink.

Apply Distress Ink to a non-stick craft sheet, mist with water and press the paper into the ink. Let dry and repeat until you are happy with the look.

Add Distress Oxide ink.

As a final layer, use Distress Oxide Ink. I made two backgrounds at once and will use the second one for another project.

The sentiments come from Simon Says Stamp Loving Thoughts and were stamped with Frayed Burlap Archival Ink.

Distress the edges.

Text and script stamps are some of my favorite stamps and I tend to use them a lot. This one has a friendship theme, which fit extra well here.

Glue the flowers to the background. I used Simon Says Stamp Pawsitively Perfect Foam Tape for some of them.

You can also add a piece of foam tape inside the flowers, to make them more dimensional.

At the bottom o the card I stapled two pieces of trim. I also tucked in extra green leaves here and there, until I had used all the leaves that I die cut.

The trim tides up the card and hides the places where the leaves might not have gone all the way down.

Happy crafting!
