Birch Forest Scenic Stamping

Hi friends! I can't believe that it is June already and we have had lovely weather here.

This week at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog we have a Bright and Cheerful theme. Since it is the first Monday of a new month, the team is showcasing products by a specific designer or company. This week it is Katzelkraft with their wonderful range of stamps. You can find them all here. You don't have to use Katzelkraft to join, but it is always fun if you do.

We also have a new guest designer and during June Alison Bomber will be joining us again. Don't miss her gorgeous creations, which she shares on her blog.

I created a bright and cheerful summer day in my art journal for this week. This scenic stamping piece was stamped with Katzelkraft Birches Forest set and painted with watercolors and Scribble Sticks. Birch trees are one of my favorite trees, particularly in spring/early summer when their leaves have the brightest of green shades.

Start by stamping the tree trunks with Jet Black ink. The page is done on watercolor paper glued into my Small Creative Journal.

Stamp one of the trunks on masking paper, cut out and place over the tree. Stamp the cottage with Ground Espresso ink. Mist the stamp with water before stamping.

Remove the mask and paint the scene with shades of green and blue watercolor paint.

Paint the trees with a grey, brown-grey and a hint of blue. Make them darker on the shaded side of the tree. Add shading to the trees and the cottage.

Stamp branches and add details to the cottage with a black pen.

Splatter with Scribble Sticks to create the look of flowers. Dip the stick in water and flick a paint brush against it.

Stamp three pine trees with Simon Says Stamp Forest Scenery. Mist with water before stamping.

Finally, add details and highlights with a white gel pen.

The white and black pen work add details to the little house. There is one of these little cottage abandoned on one of my walks. I always wonder about its history.

The small pine trees in the background adds a sense of distance.

The trunks of birch trees are so interesting and one of my favorite things to paint or draw.

Scribble Sticks are opaque which makes them perfect for splattering when you want the colors to stand out.
