Hi friends! I hope you are all well and had a good weekend. We woke up to the first snow this morning, and the kids were happy.
This week at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog our theme is Tear it Up. Don't miss checking out the project of our November guest designer Suman Pandit.
Tearing paper is fun to do and can create a great look. On this snowman tag, I tore both tissue tape and paper, for different effects. The snowman from Tim Holtz's Tattered Christmas is such a fun character and was layered on both real and stamped wood splices. As you might already know, I love anything with a wood grain effect.
Start by covering an entire background with torn pieces of tissue or washi tape. You can overlap them too, for a different effect, but I didn't overlap them much. Instead, I left some space in between the strips.
Color with Distress Crayons and smooth out the color with your finger.
Mist with water and dab with a paper towel. The color will be darker in the areas between the tissue paper.
Mist with Pearl Mica Spray, for shine, and ink the edges with Black Soot.
I decided that I wanted more of a snowy look and white embossed the Flurry stamp on the top two-thirds of the background. Go around the edges with the Ranger Emboss-It Dabber and white emboss them too.
Stamp a wood slice on mixed media paper and ink it. I also inked the real wood slices around the edges.
The embossed edges and dots add a snowy feeling to the tag.
For my sentiment, I die cut a ticket shaped tag with Tim's new Sizzix Gift Tags set and stamped one of the sentiments from Tattered Christmas on it. It was embellished with a small piece of torn silver Deco Tape, and two bells.
Layer the stamped wood slice on cheese cloth, add some twine, and place the real wood slices on top. Stamp the snowman on watercolor paper with Archival Ink. Watercolor the snowman with Distress Inks and tear the bottom, for a snowy look.
Here's a closer look of the circles of twine added around the wood slice. Glue here and there with matte medium.
I also tore small circles of watercolor paper to build a snowball lantern.
The tag was finished with more Deco and Design tapes, as well as a rub-on and Christmas Clippings sentiment.
You can see the shine from the mica spray here.
I hope you will join us this week in our Tear it Up challenge. As always, you have a chance to win a $50 gift voucher to do some fun shopping at Simon Says Stamp. You have until Monday 8am Ohio time. 1pm UK time, 2 pm CET to join in.
