Hello friends! Did you have a good weekend? We went to see Paddington 2 at the movies and thought it was really great. There is a lovely vintage handmade pop-up book in the movie and there is even a scrapbook showing at the end of the movie. It is not so often that papercraft features in a movie.
This week at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge we have a It's a Stitch Up challenge (stitching real or faux). I hope you will join us! And don't miss the lovely project by our November guest designer Suman Pandit.
I was looking through the papers in Tim Holtz's Christmas paper stash and couldn't make up my mind about which ones I wanted to use, so I decided to use a whole bunch of them and make a patchwork wall-hanger. I started by cutting out the top-left panel from the paper with lots of different squares in the pad, and made all the rest of the squares that same size (1.77 in or 4.5 cm). The whole wall-hanger is 6.7 in (17 cm).
The edges of all the squares were distressed and I adhered adhesive only in the center of the squares, to hold them in place while I did the sewing. I pulled the top threads through to the back and tied them so that I know that they are secure and won't come lose. The sentiments were cut from one of the patterned papers.
The squares were layered on burlap, a larger piece of patterned paper, distressed silver metallic paper and finally watercolor paper. I only stitched through the first two layers, and then glued the remaining ones together with Matte Medium.
The patterned papers are the focus of this piece and I only added a few idea-ology embellishments and die cut pieces. I love the shape of this branch from the Festive Greens set and die cut it from silver paper. I also really like the Beaded Berries.
The new Fluted Stars are lovely too.
I also die cut pine branches and pine cones, from the same Festive Greens set.
The birds also come from the page in the paper stash which contains many different squares.
I hope you will join us this week in our It's a Stitch Up challenge. As always, you have a chance to win a $50 gift voucher to do some fun shopping at Simon Says Stamp. You have until Monday 8am Ohio time. 1pm UK time, 2 pm CET to join in.
