Hi friends! Today I have a tutorial to share made for this month's
Eileen Hull Art with Heart challenge. The team are doing clean and simple projects this week, and were encourage to try to complete the project within ten minutes.
For me, the secret to a quick project is usually to avoid spending too much time deciding what products to do and what project to do, and to do techniques that are pretty fast, such as a quick background technique. When it comes to gift packaging, you often need to make one quickly, so I thought I'd make a gift box using the
Toolbox Box die. I really like the shape of this box. For a more elaborate project using this same day, check out my
Nature's Toolbox, with an according book inside.
I used Brusho Crystals for a very quick, and pretty interesting, background.
Start by die cutting the pieces that you need from mat board. Use this sandwich: Extended Cutting Pad, die facing up, mat board, second Extended Cutting Pad. Since the ScoreBoards dies both cuts and scores the material, the assembly is both quicker and easier than what it might appear if you look at the finished project.
White or clear emboss a background stamp on the piece. Aim for a random look, which is also often quicker than trying to get a perfect result. Brush the embossing powder off from the flaps, since melted powder makes it harder to glue the box together. The
script stamp is by
Wendy Vecchi.
Now for the really fun part. Mist water on the mat board and sprinkle
Brusho Crystals on top. Mist a little more water and watch them blend. If you want to see the crystals in action, check out
this video tutorial of mine. Leave to dry (which makes the project take a little longer than ten minutes).
Use hot glue (but be careful not to burn yourself) or another strong adhesive to assemble the box. I was taking step photos and was interrupted by my son several times, so this took a little longer than ten minutes. But I think you could do it in ten minutes, excluding the drying time.
This is what the box looks like from the top, I love the variation in colour, with the white script.
Here's one of the sides of the box, with more Brusho magic.
I covered mat board with burlap and die cut three buttons from it with the
Buttons, Border & Trim die. Tie twine in the holes and glue to the box.
For a quick sentiment, use Big Chat stickers, sanded slightly.
This box is very quick to make and the recipient will love the result. Use different colours to fit the person or occasion. The finished box is 4.2 x 3 in, so you can easily fit a small gift inside.
Thank you for visiting today! I hope you will join us in this month's
Art With Heart challenge.
Happy Crafting!
