Picture Wheel Art Journal Page

Hello crafters! I hope you had a lovely weekend! We did an outing to a neighboring town on Saturday, which was really nice.

Let's Art Journal is our theme this week at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog. I actually did my very first art journal page for a similar challenge, years ago. If you haven't art journaled yet, I hope you will give it a try. If you don't have a journal, you can use lose pages and bind them later.

Don't miss the project from our March guest designer Simona Rebecchi.

Layers of ink - Picture Wheel Art Journal Page tutorial by Anna-Karin Evaldsson.

I made a page with lots of wise words and picture wheels (view-master reels) to symbolise all those small and big moments in life. I had a pink page in my art journal where I had used up left-over paint and decided to use that. Looking for a different color combo to use, I came across this combination of dark pink/red, sage green, peach and purple and decided to use that.

The page has many circular elements, can you seen them all?

Die cut and ink Tim Holtz Picture Show.

Start by die cutting the reel from Tim Holtz Vault Picture Show, from heavystock paper and ink with Bundled Sage and Dried Marigold.

Color acetate with alcohol ink.

Die cut the solid background from Simon Says Stamp Acetate sheets and color with alcohol ink. I aimed for a dark splotchy look with Mushroom, Teak and Pitch Black.

Assemble the picture wheels.

Die cut the solid circle again and then layer them as shown.

Stamp with Simon Says Stamp Crackle Background.

Ink glossy cardstock.

For the words I covered Simon Says Stamp White Glossy cardstock with Seedless Preserves, which matched the pink-purple I wanted to use. Don't worry about getting perfectly even color, it won't show and will also add variation.

Die cut Tim Holtz Handwritten words.

I am so happy that Tim Holtz Sizzix Handwritten dies have been re-released. I used all the dies from Handwritten Journey (except for 'moments' which is at present missing) and 'happy' from the Handwritten Celebrate set.

Paint with distress paint.

The background had been covered with gesso and then I had applied left-over paint with a palette knife.

Simon Says Stamp Mix and Match Circles stencil.

I wiped some of the paint off through Simon Says Stamp Mix and Match Circles stencil and also sponged Festive Berries through the stencil.

Sponge white paint through Simon Says Stamp Snowfall and Banks stencil.

Add texture by stamping with an alphabet stamp from Tim Holtz School Desk and a date stamp from Ultimate Grunge.

Stamp with Tim Holtz Rings.

Add more circles, by stamping Tim Holtz Rings with Red Geranium ink.

Apply Stickles through Tim Holtz Bubble stencil.

Next, I applied Nebula Stickles glitter gel with a palette knife through Tim Holtz Bubble stencil.

There are tiny gold stars in the Nebula Stickles, which will stick here and there.

I didn't think the words were visible enough on the background and die cut them one more time from white cardstock.

Inked glossy cardstock are great for words and intricate details, as it is shiny.

I used sequins for the dots in the words. There are also a few strips of Design Tape Trims.

These reels from the view-master toy are very nostalgic to me. You can also add tiny photos in the windows.

A few sequins here and there finished the page and added one more circular elements - there are many on this page!

I also used some Small Talk Stickers.
