Kid's Summer Vacation Challenge

Hello everyone! During August there is a Kid's Summer Vacation Challenge at Simon Says Stamp. The theme is Anything Goes With Sparkle and it is open for all children age 2-16 years old.

My boys both wanted to join and made glittery notebooks/drawing books, so they are guest designers on my blog today.

Anton wanted to make a notebook, so both of them ended up making notebooks. I found Tim Holtz's Seashells die and since we collected shells and looked at a lot of pretty shells in South Africa, both of them wanted to make something with shells. I have now unpacked most of my boxes, but my supplies are still in a chaotic state, waiting to be organised into their new places.

I cut covers for them from matboards and punched the holes with my Crop-a-Dile. The shells were also die cut from mat board and embossed with the coordinating folder. They were given my box of Stickles and some paints and made the rest themselves.

Anton's comment about the notebook initially was 'okay, we are making a simple, basic notebook', comparing it to previous books that I made for him using Eileen Hull's Wrapped Journal die, which I discovered in a bookshelf after these books were done. He painted his covers turquoise and when they were dry, he painted them with Icicle Stickles.

Depending on the angle, you see the Icicle glitter on the surface more or less, as you can see here.

They decided what to do with the box of Stickles themselves and Anton used gold in the debossed groves of this shell.

And green for this shell.

Leo didn't want to paint his covers, but instead mixed pink and orange glitter for the covers, and found two bottles of blue Liquid Pearls which he used to paint the shells.

Here you can see the pearlescent effect.

And his orange and pink back cover.

I cut some nice sketch papers for the insides, since the boys share my liking of good quality paper. Leo asks for 'the good thick paper' when he paints with watercolors - i.e. proper watercolor paper, and not printing paper. :) The books were bound with binding rings.

There are 3 surprise parcels of crafty goodies, hand picked by Simon. The challenge will remain open until 6pm EST on 29th August. The winners will be drawn at random as soon as possible after the challenge closes. Good Luck to all!
