Plant Journal Page

Hi all! It is Monday again and a new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge, For the love of plants. A perfect challenge for summer. Did you see that we have a new design team member, the wonderful Cheiron Brandon

I made an art journal page this week, placing myself in a green garden of giant leaves, using a pretty Stamp Your Own Plant set by Hero Arts. I started by inking a large acrylic block with Distress Inks, misting it heavily with water and pressing the block on the page. This technique gives you an instant watercolour background and I love how unpredictable it is. You'll get a different result each time.

I used the You & Me set by Sizzix to die cut the clouds and sun. The sun was inked with Scattered Straw. I used both stamps and Small Talk stickers for my sentiments and journaling. The birds were stamped with Andy Skinner's Nature set.

The leaves were first inked with two shades of green Distress Ink, misted about four times with water and stamped. This gives a watercolour look. I restamped some of them without reinking. When the first layer of leaves was dry, I stamped a second one with Fern Green Archival ink. Finally, I added a third layer of leaves, this time white embossed. Make sure that the green leaves are completely dry before this step, otherwise the embossing powder will stick everywhere.

The woman was die cut with the same set as the clouds and sun. I stamped a Hero Arts stamp by Kelly Purkey underneath.

'Me' was also die cut with the You & Me set. Even though a die set might have a specific theme, in this case love, it doesn't mean that it won't work for many other topics too.

Be inspired by our challenge this week and join us, as always one random participant wins a $50 gift voucher from Simon Says Stamp.

Thank you for looking! Happy crafting!

  1. What a great page. I love the idea of using the same stamps with different colored inks and different techniques.

  2. ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY FABULOUS Anna-Karin. And trust me - I have No green thumb so the last place I would want to be is in a garden but... YOU have made this look like a WONDERLAND. More like a cool, peaceful, joyous walk in the woods. I REALLY LOVE your page. One of my favorites! Thanks bunches for such BEAUTY. j.
