Pink and Red Art Journal Page

Hello Monday! I hope you had a good weekend and managed to get some time to craft. Our challenge this week at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog is Pink and Red. Perfect for Valentine's Day, but I am sure you can think of many other interpretations of the theme.

I made an art journal page in my Small Creative Journal. When we were children we used to think red and pink would be the worst colour combination on clothing, now I really don't understand why because every time I used red and pink together I think I should do so more often. I felt like using a large photo on this page and cut out a photo of myself. Part of the journaling was stenciled right onto the photo and I also painted a red polka dot shirt for myself and gave the photo a shadow to make it blend more into the background.

The pages were first covered with gesso and when the gesso was dry I applied paint with a palette knife, in thicker layers than what I normally do. I used Dina Wakley's Ruby and Magenta paint, mixing some of the latter with white to create a lighter pink. The birds were traced with a marker using a stencils and then I painted them white.

When the white paint was dry, I stenciled on some dots with black paint, again using the same stencil. I added a little more white on top to tone down the black. After the paint dried again, more pen lines were added, as well as a black shadow.

The hearts were stamped with Red Geranium ink on Prima patterned paper. After cleaning the stamps, I inked part of them up again with Jet Black ink and stamped the hearts a second time, for cool two-toned hearts.

This heart was stamped right onto the page with Jet Black ink, painted red and when dry, I added white dots.

More sentiments were stamped onto the page using Dina's great Handwritten Quotes set. The main words were underlined. I also added a few strips of tissue tape here and there.

The final sentiment and some rub-ons.

We love to see what you create each week, so please join us, and then it might also be you who wins a $50 gift voucher from Simon Says Stamp, drawn randomly.

Thank you for stopping by today!!

Happy crafting!

  4. What a great journaling page. I remember when red and pink were so taboo. I always thought they looked so cool together. Like pale blue and navy or pale green and evergreen. Who makes up these rules???
Anyway, your page has so many cool techniques and things to see. I like how you did the stenciling and painting right over the photo. The shadow is such a great effect with the background. I have to try that!
You added so many fun details like the polka dots and the stamping re-stamped with the black.
Thank you so much for sharing your awesome work Anna Karen! I am always so inspired and so enchanted with your work! :)
