Hello friends!! I hope you had a good weekend! We had almost summer weather here and spent much time outdoors. I have also tried to sort out some computer problems that I have been having. It is Monday and a new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge is up, namely At the Movies. Since STAMPtember® started last Monday, we have our product/designer showcase this week instead, and the team is showcasing products by Spellbinders. You don't have to use Spellbinders products to join in, but it is always fun if you do.
STAMPtember® continues the whole month, be sure not to miss anything.
When I was thinking of the theme, I thought it would be a fun idea to do a layout about all the movies that Anton has seen at the movies. We love to go to the movies and when he was about 3.5 years old we started to take him to children's movies. I have kept the tickets, but I haven't managed to find them yet, they ended up somewhere during the move. I used an older photo of him and wrote quite a lot of journaling. Going to the movies with Anton is so much fun and he really loves it.
For this layout, I used two die sets by Tammy Tutterow: Waterfall One and Frayed Posies dies, as well as her Dear Ruby background stamp. I took some step photos. My favourite part might be the box of pop corn, you'll see how it was made below.
I worked on a 12 x 12 sheet of watercoloured paper that I gessoed. Pumice Stone and Hickory Smoke Distress Paint was applied with a palette knife, and before they dried completely, I rubbed off some of the paint through Tim Holtz Tiles stencil.
The background was stamped with Tammy's Dear Ruby stamp. I really like this script stamp and also used it on my Wilderness layout.
Next, I coloured some Texture Paste with Candied Apple and Silver paint and smeared through the Industrial, Numbered and Stars stencils.
The Frayed Posies flowers were die cut from the tissue paper.
Glue or staple the flowers together and crumble them up a bit. I added a Prima Druzy Stones to the centers.
I often journal a lot on my pages and I love to find fun and easy ways to add more journaling, or photos, and often both. Tammy's Waterfall One is such a fun die set. There is also a Waterfall Two, with different edges, which you could easily combine with this one. I die cut three of the scalloped pages and three of the bracket ones. You can fit six pages into a letter-sized sheet of manila cardstock.
Stamp the pages with background stamps and Shadow Grey Archival ink, which gives a great light grey. Apart from Dear Ruby, I also used Tim Holtz Lattice & Flourish and ZigZag & Diamonds stamps.
Anton loves popcorn at the movies and I wanted to include that. Then I looked at the Waterfall One dies and got the idea of using the scalloped edge one to create a popcorn box. It was die cut from Mixed Media paper and I stamped a Tim Holtz popcorn image on top.
Cut off a piece from each side and then score. Fold along the score lines, also using the lines created by the die.
The script tissue flowers are really pretty, and would look great on a card too. Or put a stem on them a place them in a jar (check out this Wire and Felt Flowers project for inspiration).
I like the big red stencil elements, and picked red because of the Spider-Man outfit.
Another two stamped tickets were glued to the cover, with the addition of a Chit Chat sticker. I embellished the Waterfall book with tissue tape, Deco Tape and some rub-ons.
I journaled on both sides of the pages inside the booklet and wrote down memories from our movie visits. The booklet lies flat on the page and doesn't add much bulk at all, which I really liked. It would also be a fun element on the front of a card, you could hide sentiments and special greetings inside.
At the side of the booklet there is a film strip stamped on Clearly for Art Modeling Film. Carefully heat the film and shape it as you'd like. It keeps its shape perfectly. I also stamped a movie program on acetate, which was placed under the photo, to add another layer to the layout.
I hope you will join us in our At the Movies challenge. As every week, you have a chance to win a $50 gift voucher from Simon Says Stamp. You have until Monday 8am Ohio time. 1pm UK time, 2 pm CET to join in.
