Glitter Rainbow Card Tutorial

Hi friends! Today I have a quick and easy card tutorial to share with you, made with the new Simon Says Stamp Beautiful Days release.

I used products from Simon Says Stamp new release Beautiful Days. When I saw the Everyday Acetate Sentiment Strips I got the idea of placing glitter paper behind each sentiment to create a glittery rainbow effect on the card. The panel was adhered with foam strips for extra dimension. I used one of the new Pastel Color Blend sheets behind the acetate panel.

I couldn't pick which Everyday Acetate sentiment to use and thought they all looked great together. Cut strips of Simon Says Stamp glitter cardstock to fit behind each sentiment. This is a great way to use up scraps of glitter paper.

Glue the glitter strips to the back of the sentiments, placing small dots of glue on the black printed areas.

Die cut the pretty Simon Says Stamp Rose-Winged Butterfly from one of the Pastel Color Blend sheets and from white glitter paper.

This card was hard to photograph since it has so many shiny and glittery parts.

The butterfly was off-set a little and I added Prismatic Sky Pearls to the card too. I used the new Simon Says Stamp Embellishment Wand tool for the pearls and it worked great.

The sparkly and colorful words look nice together with the transparency and the glossy background.

Canvas Art Journal Page Tutorial

Hi friends! I hope you had a nice weekend. We had lovely spring weather and soon the trees are going to start turning green.

This week we have a Rainbow theme at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog. I hope you will join us and don't miss the beautiful card by our April guest designer Ann Chuang.

I was in the mood of using a photo for this project and picked one of my older double rainbow photos taken in South Africa. It was printed on canvas so that the photo is a part of the background. This started out as an art journal page, but might go into one of my scrapbooking albums instead, since it is a bit of both and since I wanted to stitch all around the page.

After printing the photo on canvas paper I coated the rest of the paper with gesso, letting some of the gesso overlap the photo. Next, I applied texture paste through Simon Says Stamp Mix and Match Circles stencil and added strips of old book paper.

The title was die cut with Tim Holtz Aphanumeric Emporium die set, using a piece of watercolor paper which had been colored with Distress Inks.

Stamp sentiments on the background. Most of my sentiments come from Tim Holtz Tiny Text, but I also used his Nature's Wonder and Simon Says Stamp Forest Scenery and Anna's Flowers. The circles come from Simon Says Stamp Mix and Match Circles stamp set and the birds are from Tim's Mini Ornates.

Add more texture with Simon Says Stamp Crackle Background and Tim Holtz School Desk alphabet stamp.

The old book paper that I used come from a South African botanical book. I let some of the words show through and in some cases stamped circles around them to make them stand out more.

Here you can see 'Mother Earth' peek through from the background paper.

I frayed the edges of the canvas paper and adhered to a piece of watercolor paper. I stitched around the canvas with my sewing machine.

By painting with gesso and paint over the edge of the printed photo, the photo blends into the background. I also stamped on the photo here and there.

I really like these Emporium letters and used them on last week's Lucky Canvas project too.

These birds are one of my all time favorite stamps. The blue ink is Archival Ink Cornflower Blue.

The paste circles add texture and interest without overpowering the photo.

File Folder Notebook Tutorial

Hello crafters! Today I have a notebook / sketchbook / journal tutorial to share, using patterned papers, stamps and die cuts.

You probably already know that I like to make my own notebooks and sketchbooks. I thought a small file folder would fit very well on the cover of a notebook. Little treasures or ephemera can also be tucked into the folder. I used a school photo from when I was around 10 years old. I used to hate this photo and today I am not sure why, perhaps since I look a little serious. I thought it deserved its place on a cover after all those years of dislike.

I used Sizzix Little Sizzles Matboard for my covers and cut them to 5 x 6 in. They were covered with Tim Holtz Backdrops papers, using matte medium as adhesive. Place under a heavy book. There was a small space left on the back cover, which was covered up with tissue tape. The outer corners were rounded with a Corner Chomper.

Die cut the file folder, slide holder, photo and label using Tim Holtz Specimen set. I used heavystock paper.

Clear emboss Simon Says Stamp Old Letter Writing on the file folder.

Ink the file folder and slide frame with Distress Ink. The embossing will resist the ink.

Staple down each side of the file folder, add design tape and stamp a sentiment. The sentiment comes from Simon Says Stamp Anna's Flowers.

Emboss the label frame twice with silver powder. Be careful not to burn yourself and don't touch the melted powder until it has cooled down completely.

I used a Tim Holtz Journal card as a mat to the slide holder and a Pocket Card to create a tag for the file folder.

The Distress Ink give a great mottled look to the file folder.

I also used a Tim Holtz Word Key and rubbed white paint into the word.

Make a tag topper by folding over a piece of lace and stitch it to the tag through a button.

The sentiments come from Tim Holtz Small Talk.

I had been saving both the pink alphabet paper and the cool organic blue paper for a project where you would see a lot of the papers.

Punch holes with a Crop-a-Dile. Cut inside pages from your favorite paper. I used watercolor paper for this sketchbook. Bind with Mini Book Rings.

The label was tied around the panel with embroidery floss.

This book would make a great gift and you can personalise it by using a photo of the recipient.

Lucky Mixed Media Canvas

Hi friends! I hope you had a good Easter weekend!

Please note: this post has affiliate links, for which I receive a small percentage of sales generated by the link, at no extra cost to you.

This week we have a Get Lucky theme at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog. I hope you will join us and don't miss the project by our April guest designer Ann Chuang.

Layers of ink - Lucky Mixed Media Canvas by Anna-Karin Evaldsson.

I made a mini canvas this week on the theme of being lucky. I used a mix of dies, paint and metallic idea-ology embellishments for the canvas.

Coat the canvas with gesso. Die cut the word from heavystock paper using Tim Holtz Alphanumeric Emporium dies. Adhere to the canvas with matte medium.

Paint the canvas with Distress Paints and mist with water to blend. When dry, stamp the word 'lucky' with Simon Says Stamp Mix and Match Squares set. Stamp crackles with Simon Says Stamp Crackle Background.

Add more brown paint around the edges.

Apply Sizzix Silver Luster Wax around the edges and on the letters.

Distress the metallic elements with Distress Paint. The key is from Tim Holtz Word Keys.

The typeface used for this word stamp is similar to the one used for the Emporium die cut letters, which made them go well together.

The key was attached by wrapping wire around a Tim Holtz Hitch Fastener.

I also used Game Spinners, Mini Gears and brads.

The luster wax make the letters stand out better, while also giving extra texture.

The word becomes almost embedded into the canvas board. You can of course use any word, as long as it fits on your surface.

I hope you will join us this week in our Get Lucky challenge. You have a chance to win a $25 gift voucher to do some fun shopping at Simon Says Stamp. You have until Monday 8am Ohio time. 1pm UK time, 2 pm CET to join in.
