Fruity Favorites

Hello everyone! We got back yesterday from visiting my family. The kids had fun swimming or splashing in the ocean, building sand castles with complicated moats, playing with their cousins, riding an old steam train (Leo loves trains), and doing lots of other things.

This week at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog we have a Food and/or Drink challenge. Don't miss the last project of our wonderful July guest designer Beulah Bee.

One of the things Leo loves about summer is the abundance of berries available for picking and eating. We have red currants and gooseberries at home and my parents have lots of other berries. Leo's favourites this year were the raspberries. And in the forest, there are blueberries. He loves fruit, basically any kind of fruit, and I decided to do a layout about that. I filled the back of the paper with journaling about favourite and not so favourite foods. Big brother eats basically everything, while Leo has quite a few peculiarities around food.

This layout has a simple design, focusing on the photos and on the Artsy Fruits stamp set by SSS from the One of a Kind release. I love this stamp set and it is such fun to build up the fruit and combine the stamps in different ways. I stamped the outlines with Archival Ink, white embossed details and then watercolored with Distress Inks. As you can see on the apple, I let stray white embossing powder be, instead of flicking it off, which creates a fun texture. For step-by-step photos of this technique, check out my Watercolor Pear Card, at the bottom of my SSS One of a Kind release post.

I did the pears basically the same as in the above-mentioned tutorial. Start watercoloring with a lighter shade of ink and drop in darker colors. Add details once the initial layer is dry.

Stamp the fruit on SSS Masking paper and cut out, to use as a mask, so that it will look like they are placed behind each other. The row of hearts come from the Wild Cuddly Critters set. I stamped sentiments from various SSS stamp sets here and there on the page.

Strawberries is another favourite and of course had to be included. Shadows were added with Pumice Stone, and a little Hickory Smoke and Forest Moss. The Mirrored Star was coloured with alcohol ink.

The gumdrops were also coloured with alcohol ink.

The title was stamped with Tim Holtz's Tall Text set and Peeled Paint ink, misting the stamp with water after inking, for a watercolor effect. As you can see, I used too much water on the 'm', but that didn't matter. It translates 'Favorite food'. The hearts were also colored with alcohol ink.

I hope you will join us this week in our Food and/or Drink challenge. As every week, you have a chance to win a $50 gift voucher from Simon Says Stamp. You have until Monday 8am Ohio time. 1pm UK time, 2 pm CET to join in.
