Snow Globe Shaker Card Tutorial

Hi stampers! Today I have a shaker card tutorial to make. One the very first card that I made was a shaker card and I still enjoy making them.

I thought the Darkroom Door Snow Globe Frame stamp would be great for a shaker card. Since I wanted the globe part to have some shape, I had to think of a different solution for the shaker part. The shaker window is therefore not the globe itself, but behind it, giving even more depth to the shaker.

Start by stamping the Snow Globe with Jet Black Stazon in on Clearly For Art Modeling Film. Cut out. 

Mask the black edge with Simon Says Stamp Very Very Low Tack Tape and stamp Darkroom Door Snow Flakes Texture stamp on the glass part with Cotton White Stazon ink.

Color on the back with alcohol ink. Don't add too much color to the globe. You need to color on the back or you will dissolve the stamping.

Gently heat the modeling film, being careful not to burn yourself and shape it around a glass. The film will keep its shape perfectly.

Cut or die cut a hole the same size as the globe from watercolor paper. Apply Distress Ink on a non-stick craft sheet, mist with water and press the paper into the ink. Immediately emboss in the Simon Says Stamp Spun Glass 3-D Embossing folder.

Glue a piece of acetate to the back of the window and line the globe part with Simon Says Stamp Pawsitively Perfect Foam Tape. Add pieces of foam tape around the edges too. Fill the window with sequins, mica flakes, and jewels and place a second piece of acetate on top to seal the shaker.

Staple the snowglobe to the cardstock. Add Sizzix Gold Luster Wax around the edges of the embossed paper. The light blue paper was colored with Distress Ink and used at the back of the embossed paper.

Adhere the shaker panel to the light blue paper with another layer of foam tape. This gives dimension, but also lets light come in behind the shaker window.

The stamped snowflakes add another layer to the shaker, while still letting the sequins show through.

I used white, blue and clear sequins in different sizes. There are also some snowflake shaped sequins.

The sentiment comes from Simon Says Stamp Snow Love and was stamped on a piece of Tim Holtz Journal Card. It was mounted with foam tape. I also added a lace trim and some fibers to the card.

The pretty jewels are Studio Katia Prismatic Sky Pearls. Here you can also see the pretty effect of the Gold Luster Wax.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial! A snow globe doesn't have to have a winter theme. If you skip the snowflakes, it could be made for any time of the year.
