Crackle Paste Clouds Tutorial

Hello friends! I hope you are well. Today I have another cloud project to share with you and this time I will make crackle clouds. It is an easy technique and can be used for other images too, not only for clouds.

I made an art journal page, but you can also make a card or use the clouds in a scrapbooking layout. I worked in my Dina Wakley 6 x 6 white journal and also added a childhood photo. I like to sometimes add photos into my art journals. This post follows on my Inked Stenciled Clouds from last week, where I used the Clouds For Days stencil by Simon Says Stamp to create a cloudy background. Today, I will be using a different part of that same, very clever, stencil.

Instead of using the cloud edges of the Clouds for  Days stencil as for my Inked Stenciled Card, I used the three solid clouds in the center. Apply Crackle Texture Paste through the stencil with a palette knife. You can also experiment and use different types of paste, such as matte texture paste, if you don't want the crackles.

Let dry and crackles with appear. Mix watercolor paint and paint the sky. Add paint also to the clouds, but remove some of it with a paper towel, to create lighter areas. The paint sinks into the cracks.

Use watercolor pencils to add shadows under the clouds, dissolve with a paint brush and water.

Add texture by sponging white acrylic paint on the background, through Tim's Gradient Dot stencil.

I mixed an little bit of Perfect Pearls powder into water to make my own glimmer mist and sprayed it on the background.

The Tall Sketch Heart is by Memory Box and the small hearts come from Tim Holtz Falling Hearts die. They were die cut from Simon Says Stamp white glitter paper. I also added three pink sequins.

If you want some areas of the clouds to be darker, just drop in a darker shade of blue there.

I used baker's twine to hang the swing from the top of the page.

Clouds are such great elements to add to a scene or background or to use as focal points.

The sentiment comes from the Paper Artsy The Happiness Edition set by Alison Bomber. It was stamped on watercolor paper that has first been colored in a light pink shade.
