CSI case file #70: Three Generations

Hello and welcome! Today I am sharing my layout for CSI:Color, Stories, Inspiration case file #70. This is the first case file reveal that includes the new design team members. You don't want to miss it, everybody did a fabulous job. The case file:

I recently did a tutorial for Heart Shadow Boxes with a mother theme. When I developed photos for that tutorial, I developed two of each, just in case I messed one up. The photos are of my grandmother and my mom, my mom and me and my son and me. I was happy to find such similar photos of all three of us. I really loved the heart shadow boxes project, and wanted the same three photos together on a layout, so that I could add more journaling. Sorry about the reflections in the photos, I only noticed them as I was editing the layout.

From the evidence items I used: flowers, wood, fence, something woven, circles, mini brads, paint and distressing, and from the testimony items I journaled about motherhood and the role of being a mom. The journaling is behind the door.

I wanted to use the Love Sizzlits, but not as a die cut. Instead I used it to die cut Eclipse tape (sticky side up), and created a stencil (see this tutorial). White paint was sponged over the stencil to create this effect.

I used Prima ledger paper for the background and toned it down a bit with Picket Fence Distress Paint. I've been wanting a background stamp with tiny hearts for a long time and was happy when Hero Arts released one recently. It was embossed with seafoam white embossing powder. I also stamped a script stamp on the background with pink chalk ink.

I love Karen Burniston's Door die and here I used it to hold my journaling. The door was die cut once from mat board and once from smooth white cardstock. I only kept the frame from the mat board die cut. The door was stamped with a new Hero Arts woodgrain stamp, which also contains hearts, with Archival Ink Sap Green. The two white hearts come from the Love Sizzlits die.

The ornate plate was die cut from natural sticky-back canvas and placed behind the door.

I die cut the door another three times from smooth cardstock and printed my journaling on the door parts. There is one page (door) of journaling for each of the photos. I trimmed the journaling doors just a tiny bit, except for the last one, to make sure they would open easily. I wrote about my thoughts about each picture, motherhood, hopes and concerns, and about the love for a child.

I painted the door with Picket Fence Distress Paint and then added some Old Paper and Peeled Paint distress crackle paint. The green paint was a bit too bright, so when it was dry I painted over it with the Picket Fence paint.

The bird was die cut from smooth white cardstock and stamped with the heart background stamp and pink chalk ink. Isn't it a cute stamp, perfect for stamping on die cuts. The On the Fence die was die cut twice from white mat board. I painted it with Picket Fence Distress Paint and gave it the same treatment with two green crackle paints as on the door.

Flowers were die cut with the Tattered Flower Garland die, using different 6 x 6 in patterend papers. I layered them and shaped them a bit. The leaves were left-overs from my Heart Shadow Box projects, die cut with the 3-D Bloom w/Leaves die. There is a bit of cheese cloth behind the fence and behind the photos and I glued a tiny heart ribbon at the base of the fence.

The 'happy hearts' dimensional sticker is really old, I think I got it in 2004, it fit very well on this layout and I am happy it finally got a home.
