Gingerbread Dance Tutorial

Hi friends! I hope your weekend was good! My parents visited us and we had a great time doing Christmas things around the house and going to a Christmas market.

I am still making Christmas gifts and this week I made a dancing gingerbread wall-panel. There is a Swedish Christmas song about gingerbread people and the panel was inspired by that song, although there is supposed to be three gingerbread people, but I really wanted to include the sweet gingerbread heart too. I used both machine and hand stitching. The panel is 6 x 6 in. We baked and decorated gingerbread cookies this weekend, and also made some really cute marsipan figurines, which are very popular in the house.

The gingerbread people were die cut with Tim Holtz's Fresh Baked 2 die set from kraft cardstock and inked with Ground Espresso. The larger mat layer was die cut from brown cardstock, and I seem to have forgotten to include them in the photo.

 

Glue the inky people to the slightly larger background piece, pierce holes around the border and stitch with DMC floss. I used two strands of floss for the people, and three for the heart, since the heart comes with die cut holes and they were larger than the ones I pierced. The heart comes from the Fresh Baked 1 die set. The details were die cut from white paper. The heart is layered with foam adhesive in two places, so it is pretty dimensional.

For the background I used a new Sizzix 3-D embossing folder called Confetti Hearts. I love the jumble of layered hearts, and I already know I will be using this folder a lot. I applied Vintage Photo ink directly to the folder, misted the paper with water on both sides and embossed.

The heart panels were stitched to a piece of burlap and then I glued everything to mat board, for stability. I love picking Clippings Stickers to form a sentiment. I also added three pieces of holiday ephemera.

Die cut Mini Holiday Greens from green, brown and gold kraft stock cardstock. Use white paint on the quote to make it stand out.

The two gold baubles were left over from last week's Vintage Christmas Tin project. This heart die cut is so sweet, and can be used at any time of the year.

The gingerbread people are off to dance around the tree.
