Hi friends and welcome to my blog today! Did you have a good weekend? We finally got some proper snowfall and it has been cold. Few things are as beautiful as a sunny winter day when the branches of the trees are covered in snow. The kids have had such fun playing in the snow, and I took a magical walk yesterday along a lake.
This week we have a Tag It theme at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog. Don't miss the project by our January guest guest designer Amber Sheaves.
For some years, I have always done an art journal page welcoming the new year, and here is this year's version. The page consists of tags in different sizes, stamped with Dina Wakley stamps and watercolored with Scribble Sticks. I also added quite a lot of words. The page was done in my Dina Wakley Media Journal, on one of the canvas pages. I colored the page by wetting it with water and scribbling Scribble Sticks on top.
I started by cutting tags of random size from a piece of watercolor paper. I love the We R Memory Keepers Angle Corner Chomper, because it makes it so easy to do your own tags.
Stamp the tags with a variety of stamps. I used stamps from the Positive Women, Scribbly Birds in Flight, Scribbly Small Birdies, and All the Gals.
To color the stamps, I simply picked up pigment from the tip of Scribble Sticks with a wet paint brush. You can blend the colors directly on the paper. The background was done with the black crayon, using a lot of water to make it grey.
When the tags were dry, I stamped words and sentiments here and there, repeating some of them more than once.
Finally, I splattered some black crayon on the tag, by wetting the tip of the crayon and flicking a paint brush against it.
I messed up the stamping of this sentiment and had to add the 'S' by hand.
For tag toppers, I folded over a piece of thin Design Tape.
The tags were adhered to the page with double sided tape, but I also added some staples for an additional effect. There are also Clippings Stickers, for even more words.
I just love the look of this sweet bird from the Scribbly Small Birdies set. The branch was painted and scribbled.
The title was die cut with Tim Holtz Broadway XL alphabet die.
More Clippings Stickers, and a die cut arrow.
You can use a lot of different types of images like this on tags, and they don't always have to fit completely on the tag.
Finally, the last tag. I love the look of this flying bird.
I hope you will join us this week in our Tag It challenge. As always, you have a chance to win a $50 gift voucher to do some fun shopping at Simon Says Stamp. You have until next Monday 8am Ohio time. 1pm UK time, 2 pm CET to join in.
