Bird in a Nest

Hi friends! I hope you had a great weekend and a big thank you to everyone who commented on my SSS Friends Blog Hop post on Saturday. I always enjoy reading all the comments and appreciate them a lot. I had a lot of deadlines to work on this weekend, but also went on two walks and did some experiments with Anton (he got an experiment box for Christmas).

This week at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog we have a Birds of a Feather theme, which you can interpret in any way that you like. Don't miss the project by our January guest designer Amber Sheaves.

I made a dimensional bird's nest for this week's challenge, and the most special thing with it for me is that the project includes a whole bunch of items from nature that I found on one of my favorite walks. It's a beautiful walk that always fills me with a sense of peace. In my project, there are twigs, pine-cones and pieces of mica that I found on my most recent walk.

This Prima Relics and Artifacts Finch has been sitting in its box on my desk for a while now and I was happy to find a home for it. I decided to paint it in the colors of one of my favourite birds, the Blue Tit, even though it doesn't have quite the right shape. The bird has just landed in her nest for a bit of a rest.

For my base, I used two circles die cut from mat board and glued them underneath a scalloped and embossed circle that I found in a scrap bag. On top of them I layered Prima's Documented Beauty flowers, which were first inked on the edges.

For my nest, I rolled up some Prima fibers and twine and then it was glued on top of the flowers, with two twigs in between.

The bird was painted with Dina Wakley's paints, mixing them as needed.

I also added a little bit of pearl paint to the bird, which is a little hard to see in the photos.

After I had glued down the nest, I added the bird and then continued with flowers, pine cones and a die cut word.

Most of the flowers were inked around the edges.

My sentiment was die cut from two shades of blue cardstock using the Tim Holtz Sizzix Holiday Words Script.

Here and there, I glued pieces of mica which I had found on my walk.

The bird was painted relatively roughly, and when I took the photos, I noticed that the highlight in the eye is a little large. I will fix that later.

Some of the St Tropez flowers consists of several layers and can be shaped.

I also glued two flowers on the bird, to hide a hole in its tail.

The mica consists of very fine flakes, and glimmers really nicely. It is one of my favourite materials. You can also use bought mica flakes for the same effect.
