Clear Whale Card

Hi friends! First, a big thank you to everyone who posted comments on my SSS Encouraging Words blog hop post from Friday. I really appreciate it and it is always so fun to read the comments.

We had a fun weekend with outings to two different outdoors museums and some marshmallow barbecuing, which was Anton's idea. Leo thought the marshmallows were very suspicious-looking and didn't want to taste them, even though we knew he would have loved them.

It is a new month and the first Monday of a new month the Simon Says Stamp Monday team showcase a specific designer or company. This week we are celebrating our 7th birthday as a challenge, and showcase Simon Says Stamp exclusive products. Our challenge theme is fittingly Happy Birthday. You don't have to use SSS exclusive products to join, but it is always fun if you do.

We also have a new guest designer, Simo with her wonderful blog Ginny and The Sheep. Don't miss checking out the creative project she will share with you today.

I made a birthday card this week, and had fun building a cute water scene with stamps and dies. The card base is acetate stamped with the Circle Doodles background stamp and white Stazon ink. I found it among my scraps and thought it worked well together with the cute little whale stamp from Encouraging Animals from the new Encouraging Words release. Clear cards are such fun to make and receive.

You might recognize the whale from my Encouraging Words blog hop post, because I stamped and colored it while working on those projects. Stamp with a waterproof ink on watercolor paper. Smear two colors Distress Ink on a craft sheet and mist with water. Start with a watery Mermaid Lagoon and cover most of the whale, drop in darker shades of the same color, and finally, finish with a few spots of Blueprint Sketch, before the ink dries. Die cut with the coordinating dies

To make my waves, I die cut SSS vellum using the fun Eyelet Arch Borders set, from the Cherished collection. I die cut two pieces with the larger dots and one with the smaller.

The three pieces of vellum were colored at the back with Distress Ink - using Tumbled Glass for the lightest one at the back, Blueprint Sketch for the one in the middle and Mermaid Lagoon for the one at the front. I stamped one of the sentiments from Envelope Greetings with Island Blue ink across the first vellum strip. I am thinking this card might make its way to South Africa, so the sentiment of 'from across the miles to bring you smiles' was perfect. The other two sentiments comes from the All My Love set.

I also die cut the Big Day from shimmery SSS cardstock, layering blue on top of white.

I really like the shine of this cardstock, you can see it better here. The hearts were die cut from the same blue cardstock.

Tuck the whales in among the waves. Aren't they cute?

I left some of the white of the paper on the whales showing for highlights. Staple the vellum pieces to the acetate back to avoid having to use adhesives, which is always tricky with vellum.

Here's the card again, but on a white background, which makes it a little harder to see the white stamped circles.

  8. Thanks for the great tutorial Anna-Karin for this sweet card. (I like to make acetate cards from time to time as they are so un-expected to receive and def. a WOW factor for the recipient.)
The ocean scene is perfect and I love that you coloured the vellum with the DI's, so pretty. I wonder if you had used a spray adhesive on the vellum would it stick well and hold on the acetate??? I must try that to see.... Now I am curious. LOL
    A beautiful card!
