Time Travel Art Journal Page

Hello and welcome! It is Monday again, and my favourite part of Mondays is of course that there is a new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge up. This week we are going on a journey. Lots of options for this fun theme.

 

First I planned to do a project on travelling, but I had done a few of those recently, so I decided to work in my art journal instead, making something a little different. I love to read, ever since I first held a book in my hand, and one of my favourite ways of travelling is to journey through time and space in books. I found a few quotes on my desk that I had written down while reading the Game of Thrones books by George R.R. Martin and decided to build my page around them. I picked out a bunch of stamps that fit with the theme and built a little scene in my journal. As a focal point, I used the Castle Photo Stamp by Darkroom Door and built a hill with trees.

I started with gluing down old book paper in my Small Creative Journal, using multi medium. Then I covered them with a layer of gesso, scratching into the gesso. It was painted with Distress Paints, misting with water before it was completely dry for extra texture. The castle, trees and keys were stamped on tissue paper and adhered to the page with multi-medium. This works great for such detailed stamps, since some of the detail might have been lost had I stamped them directly on the page.

The hill was painted with Distress Paint, and I also added colour to the trees and the castle. Some of the stamps, such as the crown and bird here were stamped directly on the page. I also stamped handwritten text stamp from the New York Vol. 2 here and there with Watering Can ink. I wanted a warm and golden page with some red elements, and sponged Red Geranium ink through a stencil. Tarnished Brass paint was also sponged through stencils.
 



Here you can see how I added colour to the castle, with Distress Paint. I used a Darkroom Door sentiment stamp, which fits real well when it comes to reading opening doors for you.

 

Tarnished Brass Paint was sponged through the Rays stencil, to add sun rays.

I love how you can spot the text from the old book paper here and there, particularly the 'paper palace' part. Some birds fly past, probably carrying messages. I also stamped a clock here and there, because of the time travel theme.

Here you can see some of the scratches into the gesso, also more stamping and gold stencilling. 

I really like these tree stamps and the handwritten text here and there gives a nice extra texture. 

The Industrious letters and arrow stickers were coloured with Red Geranium Archival Ink. Attach them to a craft sheet and just press the ink pad on top. Leave to dry, or dry with a heat gun.
