CSI case file #80 - Summer Memory

Hello and welcome! We have a new case file at CSI:Color, Stories, Inspiration, with a sweet colour combo and summery theme:

I was going through a pile of photos and came up on this one:

CSI case file # 80 - Layers of ink
During the summers, we spent a lot of time at the sea as children. This layout is about fishing for little crabs among the cliffs in the shallow water. They were kept in buckets and then released back into the sea, and were a little bit scary to hold. From the evidence items I used: something transparent, texture paste, flowers, lace, and woodgrain, and from the testimony items, I journaled about a summer memory.

The photo is matted on two stamped pieces of acetate and I wrote the journaling on three different labels by Eileen Hull, die cut from woodgrain paper. I turned the sketch, since I wanted to use one 6 x 4 horizontal photo, rather than three smaller photos.

The background was made with watercolours and texture paste. I used watercolour paper as my base. First the cliff was painted with a mix of brown, using dry-brushing here and there and leaving some areas the white of the paper. The grass was painted the same way. I painted some grass strands and also dry-brushed a darker green on top. A very light pink was painted in the sky.

Small and large flowers were added by smearing molding paste through two different stencils (Prima and Wendy Vecchi), also adding two words with a Wendy Vecchi stencil. I smeared a little bit of Golden Glass Bead Gel here and there, which gives the look of water.

When the paste was dry, I painted some of the flowers pink and the rest white. Even though the paste is opaque, the white paint made the flowers stand out more.

Here's a close-up of the glass bead texture, it looks really nice as the light catches it.

I wanted to have a bucket, as in the photo, and used my new Eileen Hull 3-D Clay Pot die to make it. Dies can very often be used for other things than what they were meant for and this is one example, turning a pot into a bucket. I die cut it from mat board, inked with Dried Marigold, glued the rim onto the bucket and stamped a title with alphabet stamps. Then it was coated with glossy accents, for great shine. The handle was made with white molding film and a brad. The spade was die cut, inked and coated with Glossy Accents.

Here you can see the look of the Glossy Accents better.

The crabs and sea star were stamped on Wendy Vecchi Clearly For Art modeling film and cut out. I heated the film with my heat gun and shaped it. It keeps its shape perfectly, very cool stuff.

I love this flower stencil by Wendy Vecchi. The flowers were painted white and the stems green. The little butterfly is die cut with Karen Burniston's Butterflies die.

Thank you for looking! Enjoy your weekend!
