Chic to be Shabby

Happy Monday! This week we are going shabby chic with our challenge at Simon Says Stamp and Show, 'Chic to be shabby'. My fellow team mates did a wonderful job just as every week, so don't miss their projects. As always there is a prize to be won from our sponsor Simon Says Stamp.

When I hear 'shabby chic', I think of lace, buttons, pearls, pink and a whitewashed vintage look. I made a pop-up card using Karen Burniston's fun Square Ornate 3-D Frame, which is so easy to use and fits for any theme.

The pop-up was die cut from Tim Holtz Crowded Attic paper and I put vellum behind the frame for a soft look. The silhouette lady was die cut from natural sticky-back canvas and inked with Vintage Photo. Then I realised that the Fancy Frame fit really well on top and die cut it from white cardstock. It was embossed with Platinum powder, I love using the Ranger Emboss-It dabber for this as it is so easy to cover even an intricate shape like this one.

The butterfly was die cut three times from vellum and layered together. I twisted two wires and attached them to the butterfly and the pop-up with mini staples, first making sure that the butterfly did not extend beyond the borders of the card when it is closed.

The Square Ornate Frame die leaves a great negative space on both sides, which can be decorated further, or is perfect for a sentiment or message. I stamped the grey patterned paper with different images from Attic Treasures, some were embossed with Tattered Rose Distress Embossing powder and others with Seafoam White powder. I swept Picket Fence Distress Stain across the paper to give it a slight whitewash and inked the edges.

I used manila cardstock for the base and clear embossed Tim Holtz wallpaper stamp over the entire surface, inside and outside of the card. I painted it one side at a time with Snow Cap paint dabber, and let it dry for a short while. The paint was wiped off from the embossing, which resists the paint, creating a great textured whitewashed effect. Stamps from Attic Treasure were stamped on top with Aqua and Mountain Rose paint, to add another layer of stamping. The Tattered Banner was die cut from white cardstock and the sentiment was embossed with Platinum powder.

Here's the top part of the inside of the card, with more stamped images. I also added a piece of lace on both sides.

This is the front of the card. The background is the same as on the inside. The crinkle ribbon was stamped with a measuring tape stamp and Archival Coffee ink. After I attached it to the card, it started to bleed a bit, as can happen with these types of surfaces. I almost removed it, but decided to leave it.

Here's a close-up of the background. I like the distressed look of the paint stamping on top of the paint resist background. The edges were inked with Vintage Photo.

The frame from Tim Holtz Artful Silhouettes was embossed with platinum powder on a piece of patterned paper and the silhouette was stamped inside and embossed with three layers of Seafoam White powder. I didn't remove the little stray flecks of powder since I thought they added to the distressed look. This stamp is the same shape as the silhouette die cut used on the inside of the card and I thought they were fun to use together on the same project. For the outside, I die cut the Fancy Frame from natural sticky-back canvas and layered on top of the silhouette.

The butterfly was done in the same way as the on the inside of the card.
